If Risto is so good and just needs to be used properly and surrounded by better (defensive) players why doesn’t Buffalo use him better and surround him with better players? Why move him and try to convince everyone that he isn’t what we think we’ve seen for years? The fact that you want to trade him means something.

Well, he has just been surrounded with better players that can lessen his load, but the season hasn't started yet. All this trade talk has come from Risto himself speaking to a Finnish media outlet, not from the Sabres front office. The only convincing is coming from forums like this among people like us that have no bearing in the situation. Some Buffalo fans only want him traded because he's the most likely asset that could patch up the top-six FWs, but I look forward to having him if that doesn't happen. I'm happy to keep him under a (hopefully) competent HC for the first time in his career. Doesn't mean he's an all-star or whatever, just that he can be totally worth his contract as a 2nd pair RHD with PP skills, and NOT a train wreck in his own zone...if only the Sabres finally employ a decent defensive system.

Dreger is actually one of the more plugged in insiders when it comes to the Sabres. He and Friedman are the 2 guys that seem to know the most about buffalo since Jason Botterill took over (Botts doesn’t let much leak to the media)

Because we have 3 RHD who should play ahead of him.

If you wanna pretend player usage doesn't matter, have a blast, but, uh...You're wrong.

Multiple coaches, multiple systems. Same result. We’re talking basics. Doesn’t box out, plays with the puck to much in his own zone, reaches like crazy, leaves his responsibility, etc. Very basic things. He’d be a great roller player. But at this point, he’s pretty much what he is. There’s no signs he’s ever going to get better. Any team trading for him, will be doing so for the offense, prepared for the negatives in his own end.

We made 2 trades, Jokiharju and Miller. Please pay attention.

What a condescending way to defend your questionable opinion that Jokiharju should be played ahead of Risto.

He obviously understands and doesn't agree.

Yeah, zero chance Joker should be ahead of Risto as of this season. Risto at the very least is the RD2. Between him, Miller and Montour all 3 should get around 20 mins a piece.

I am looking forward to Risto playing on a good defense for the first time in his career. Just asinine that a guy who had to carry the worst blueline in the league the last half decade playing with broken bums like Josh Gorges, who has 420+ career games, 4 straight 41+ point seasons (1 of 9 D in entire league to do that) , 3 more seasons under contract at only 5.4 mil and is only turning 25. 25 year old top 4 RHD who can play in all situations, put up 40+ ppints every season, can skate, hit, pass and shoot should not be disrespected as much as Risto is.

Now that the Sabres have arguably a top 10-15 blueline corps and Risto no longer has to play 26 minutes a game you will see Risto have a normal +/-, better possession #s and just better play period. He will still get enough ice time and PP time to put up 40+ points. When Risto puts up 40 points, a +/- near 0 and not -30 and better analytics as a whole his value will increase tenfold.

Mantha for Risto is fair value. Mantha surely has not done nearly enough to somehow make people go up in arms being mentioned in a trade for Risto. 25 year old 40+ point top 4 RHD for a 25 year old 25 goal,45-50 point 2nd line winger is as fair as can be. And in general D already have a built in premium in trade value. If Mantha somehow has untapped potential being a month older then Risto then so does Rasmus since this the first year ever he has more then 1 other legit top 4 D on his team.

We are paying attention but Joker might still be a year away, and i would not count your chickens for either him or Miller until they play a game or ten in Blue and Gold.

Why bother? Let’s anoint guys and be shocked later when they fail. It’s the Sabre way

I'm comfortable that Mantha is more in line with Aho value than either of the other two. He's not a line driver like most of these guys, so meh. If Mantha goes 40/80 next year, pay the man his money. Otherwise, value's set nicely with Larkin + bump for cap edge.

Aho will be one of the best C's in a few years... so no.

Dreger hasn’t had a reliable source since his close family member, Dave Nonis, was fired by the Maple Leafs several years ago.

He’s called some Sabres stuff recently.

Like I said in my last post, since Jason Botterill took over the Sabres GM job very very little information has leaked, but when it does it seems like it has been Dreger or Friedman reporting it. They seem to be the 2 guys best plugged in to the Sabres new front office. Our local guys never get scoops.

doesn't matter if you explain buffalo reasoning for listening to offers or listing needs. people who don't watch him will still come here and say "That aint true he sucks lol"
