It’s for 2 years, not 7. Difference between Holland and Yzerman.

Holland signed (brought back) Mikael Samuelson at age 36 for 2 seasons coming off a season of 31 points in 54 games and everyone hated the fact we brought him back. Flip signs at age 35 coming off a season of 31 points in 72 games and all the Yzerman slappies nod their head in unison repeating "veteran mentor."

We have too many and Flip doesn't slot in anywhere.

He also played much of his Detroit days on the wing. The signing doesn’t make a ton of sense but maybe there is something else coming. Worst case, they have a very serviceable all around player who can play many roles for two years.

Gee wonder if its cause that was a big add for Holland when we were trying to compete. But hurr durr what's a context?

As long as there is no NTC attached I'm fine with it... he is just a bottom 6 vet so our kids dont have to play in spots they arent ready for. I dont want us becoming edmonton.

So it's worse to sign veteran forwards to 2 year contracts for depth when you are trying to win then when you have nothing to play for?
Let's see one did Jack shit but eat cap and take up a spot when we needed actual help on offense and the other is an easily moveable contract that has zero negative bearing on the team. If you need anymore help with differentiating circumstances I'm here to help.

Probably a two million difference as well. Holland sure loves to overpay his vets.

Yeah, because Filppula turned down 7 years at $5 million...

Much more likely that Holland laughed at $3M per.

Zero negative bearing? Let’s see

A) Takes up a roster spot
B) How much offense is he actually going to provide
C) Moveable? That is a very slim chance without retaining which would be stupid

But but but Yzerplan!

When we signed him, Samuelson was coming off of a more productive season than Filppula had last year. Can’t use Samuelsson’s 2 years as a wing against him in the comparison when Flip could be just as bad (time will tell, he obviously hasn’t played yet under the contract). We’re talking about at the time the contract was signed.

He was good for the Isles this season - still has skill, creativity and is responsible defensively. This is a thank you contract as he will probably retire a Wing - better off as 1 yr but no reason to be bummed over it. He is a good 3C, but still puzzling since he is basically a Nielsen Clone with a little more skill
