Despite his inconsistent play the last few years, is Carey Price still Canada's first choice goalie?

Canada
And it still doesnt make sense, because Price's stats are off the charts as well
His regular season was at best average, but he stole the 1st series against the Leafs. Last night Montreal won, but it wasn't because of Price, but he played well.

If Campbell was Canadien, he'd deserve that honors tbh
Lol no.

only a year , and he did not win.

He wasn’t controlling well rebounds and was also not always technically sound .

so Price would definitely be before Campbell, no doubt

Half the problem with Carey Price is his salary. Nobody cares about it in international play.

What are you talking about? Can you please cite these off the chart stats?

Many people in this thread have presented you with all the stats of Price in pressure situations, which are the ones that hold the most weight when selecting a roster for a one and done tournament and you continue to ignore them. The Canadian management isn’t going to care if Price had a bad November, or even a bumpy statistical season behind a piss poor team in the regular season.

In other words, don’t use his stats in recent seasons, which are a much bigger sample, because it only matters when he plays well.

What does it matter if a goalie’s a Vezina candidate if he chokes when the games get important? Why would you want that in a short tournament where you don’t get a second chance? You’re bringing up how people are only focusing on when he plays well. It just so happens, he’s played his best the past two seasons during the most important time of the year. He’s stolen two series a poor Montreal team had no business being in the last two years.

You can include recent playoff and not just this one or the last one since 2017:
Carey Price Career Playoffs Game Log | Hockey-Reference.com
24 playoffs games, .932 save percentages

NHL Stats

That second in the league for goaltender with 15 games or more since 2015, first among Canadian goaltender:
NHL Stats

Since 2011
NHL Stats
#8 in the league, third among active canadian behind Smith&Holtby, Holtby look to be possibly done in the elite goaltender and Smith is getting to 40.

Regular season (and large sample size):

Since 2010-2011 he is first among active Canadian goaltender in save percentage with at least 100 games:
NHL Stats

Since 2014-2015
NHL Stats
Second among active goaltender to Fleury (who would be a logical pick to consider above Price), if we would have a Canadian Roy-Brodeur-Belfour-Luongo type in is prime right now it would be easier to not consider Price for team Canada, but I feel it is not a specially good time for Canada at that position and for a while.

100% Price is the best Canadian goalie right now. He wasn't very good this year until the playoffs but there's not much competition...

Fleury is too old.

Holtby isn't good anymore.

Binnington was never good, despite a brief period where he played behind a great team and fooled some people.

Murray was never good, fooled even fewer people than Binnington.

... Maybe they can convince Luongo to come back :dunno:

You mean the ones already posted in this very thread in response to you?

Like the stats have not only been posted multiple times, but the post containing the stats have literally quoted you already. Stop being an idiot

You are being disingenuous. His stats quite clearly are not off the charts. If you only include the good ones, they might be, but why would you do that? His stats in recent seasons are very mediocre. Why don’t those count?
