Dietz did win KHL best defenceman in 2018-2019.

If by proven skill, you mean Wideman has proven he is nothing more than a #6-7 D, then yes. Unless he somehow unlocked his potential in a year, he's not going to be more than a #6 PP specialist.

At least, Dietz has the argument that he was never given a real shot at the NHL level, while Wideman had plenty of time to show what he could(n't) do.
Did he? I remember he had a good year, but not that he won d of the year. If he did I take it back. Regardless, Wideman has skill and was blackballed. He’s in a different league than Dietz (which may still be skilled PP #6, but still). Edit: his bio has no mention of the award. So who knows.

How many goals did Weber scored last year ? How a majority of the posters here were laughing at Weber all season (before Playoffs) long because of his slow speed ? Savard is a very solid (temporary) replacement for Weber. Savard is aa better defensive D-man at this stage of their respective carreer. As for goals scoring from D, petry will keep providing some, Romanov might find his touch, and Habs could acquire another one like Montour or Soucy. And they have some good ones down the pipeline that we gonna see in a year or two.
The problem is the next year or two during which we will be burning probably the last two good years that Price has. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. I personally would not commit major dollars in an effort to bridge the time until those promising, puck moving defencemen arrive. This is not a championship roster. Adding a Savard or a Wideman at great cost is a futile effort. They will not make any difference in the fortunes and fate of this team.

We will have a lot of good young d-men coming in the next years (Norlinder, Harris, Struble, Mailloux, Guhle). So we don't need to commit on too long contracts for d-men.

Your quite correct. This team as currently constituted will most likely miss the playoffs until those heralded reinforcements arrive and become factors. Taking a step backwards is not such a bad thing. We have waited almost 30 years for another championship. I suspect we will have to wait a little bit longer.

I hope Bergevin can resist the clamor from fans and the media to make a big splash in free agency or completing a trade. I suspect that after ignoring the predictable braying that his controversial selection of Mailloux would engender, Bergevin might not be persuaded to act rashly. If he shows that required insight and backbone, he will only be adding further support to the notion that he is more a calculating thinker than a fancily dressed buffoon.

100% agree with you , Like I said I would throw an offer to DeAngelo. Dude had 15 goals and 53 points 2 seasons ago before his drama.
He wont cost much neither. Instead of getting another Chariot playing top minutes
I dont like the drama with DeAngelo. But then again go look at his junior numbers. Jesus christ.

Who else in the league has been suspended multiple times for violating the diversity policy of the league against their own teammate?

Who else in the league has been punched by a teammate for their asshole behaviour and waived then bought out?

This isn't just an idiot with bad opinions like Prust. This is a toxic, discriminatory person.
Groan.
We are not looking for an ambassador. We are looking for a hockey player. Yeah the guy is douche. Who cares?

Unless I'm wrong savard is a right shot and all those kids, minus mailloux, are left d so having a veteran right d to pair some of them with as they come up seems good idea to me

OK, don't agree with me.. it's totally reasonable that an NHL team would just terminate the contract of 50 pt RHD after a very public incident (after incident after incident in the past involving this player on multiple teams) for nothing dissimilar to other players.

Dudes a locker room cancer. It's not a secret and he isn't just one of many, he's an asshole that stands above all other assholes.
Ho do you know this?

The only defenceman we've drafted in the past 16 years who was a top 4 D with the Habs was Subban. A big part of his development was having partners like Hal Gill and Josh Gorges at the start of his career who were steady and allowed Subban to play his game.

Savard won't be a flashy pick-up like someone like Hamilton, but by getting him it will help a guy like Romanov immensely and could allow one of our drafted defenceman to actually contribute to the team for once.
Thanks for this, good perspective

It has nothing to do with political views - he's an idiot for his political views but that has nothing to do with the reason why he's been booted away from every team he's ever been on and the Rangers chose to buy him out rather than deal with his antics in the locker-room.
How do you know any of this?

Tony DeAngelo started fight with Alex Georgiev
Per Adam Herman, this had been brewing for a while. A number of teammates had grown tired of DeAngelo’s act, specifically his treatment of rookie K’Andre Miller. Reports are that DeAngelo withheld Miller’s puck from his first goal. This does not appear to be the first encounter between Miller and DeAngelo either.
Additionally, sources have told Blue Seat Blogs’ Brandon Cohen that there has been a divide in the locker room regarding DeAngelo. Some thought that DeAngelo was a lovable goofball, while others thought he was a real problem. It got to a point where some were upset Jacob Trouba got an ‘A’ over DeAngelo.

A good team is an united team. DeAngelo was causing a divide in the NYR room.
I heard they thought he was pretty ok...at least most of them. Many stories out there about him so it's hard to know the truth.
