A great outcome for the Stars. With Oleksiak leaving, and d-men signing for crazy $$$ out there, Dallas is really breathing a bit easier. With all the movement of d-men over the last 3 days it would have cost a lot to bring in an a decent plan B. I like Harley a lot - but it is not a prudent choice to put him on the second line this year. The best-case scenario going forward involves Miro playing more offensively with Sutter or Lindell covering his rear. (+ Klingberg signing long term at $7m)

Who is 36 and it's for 4 years. So if he retires at any time it still counts against the cap does it not?

The one thing that makes this deal look favorable is that Suter knows how to conserve energy while on the ice. Even if you take away his PP time, he is still apt to average roughly 15 minutes a game for a few season. Say at 38 you relegate him to your 5/6 pairing, with 8-12 minutes of ice time -- that is still serviceable considering he is probably one of the best defensive passers in the league.

I like it for the Stars. At that cap hit, the term isn't that scary and there are options down the road. Between this and the Glendening signing, Dallas just got a lot better defensively and harder to play against.
