You know that's $4.5Million per year right? It's not that bad.
It’s that bad. It’s the second year that makes it worse than Marleu.

you guys cite the 2nd year like that’s a positive on a cap dump. Guys. That extra season makes it extra negative.

And how are they going to pay these players they take on? they can barely pay rent and then if they take on a guy like say Nick Ritchie who has another year, they don't offically have a place to play

Theres quality and good things happening everywhere but you’ve been a Yotes fan longer than anyone on this board and know that somehow, some way they’re gonna screw the pooch. I for one would like to see a strong team there, god know the división needs one
Who’s “they”? Is this superstition? Do you believe in voodoo and hexes and magic? There is nobody left in the organization at any decision-making level that had anything to do with any mistakes that are older than three years.

How is it worse? It is what it is. In '22-23 Arizona has over $51million available cap space. Even after they acquire and sign who they have to acquire and sign I hardly think $4.5million is going to mess things up that much.

And they can use that cap space on signing good players on Yotes contract terms or crappy ones on someone else’s contract template. To waste their cap space on crappy contracts like that, it’s going to be really expensive for a team like Ottawa to tap into it.

no GM is going to do Ottawa (any team) a favor. To buy two years of cap space, it’s going to be expensive. JBD and picks. Or some other prospect of the Yotes choosing. Will be one of the Sens best ones + picks. Or just keep the guy and your picks/prospects. Arizona will have no shortage of teams looking to tap their cap space.

If Arizona makes those kinds of demands of teams looking for cap relief nothing is getting done. A 2nd and 3rd for $9 million in cap relief (over two years) is not a favor - it's a fair price that will get the market moving.

Arizona has no reason whatsoever to waste several million in precious cap space for a measly 3rd round pick. Or to get the market moving. They can use their cap space to sign UFAs on their terms in an era where UFAs lack leverage. Or offer that cap space to competitive teams like Toronto, Tampa, Edmonton, Carolina and so on.

I said 2nd and 3rd. And is the key word there.

Never mind, I’m sure it’s gonna go great

Have to wonder what good players they're really envisioning are going to be offered up to them.

They don't have the retention slots available to play broker like SJ did last year with Foligno.

How many good teams have a $2m+ player, with term, that they need to get rid of to accommodate an acquisition, that the initial trade partner isn't going to take back in return?

Eat cap space?

What does that mean. Hurting contenders chances?

I wonder if they would like to take caphits, not eat cap space. :D

In what world is 9 million a 2nd and a 3rd? Zero precedence for that statement.

"The Coyotes have let it be known that they’re willing to take on contracts or money in exchange for future assets, just as we saw them do with a few transactions over the summer. And they’re still going to look at some things. They want to know how long that contract is if they are bringing on a player, what type of player it is.
"But the Coyotes are certainly eyeing a chance to be an important go-between at this deadline where so many teams are capped out."

Coyotes willing to eat cap space ahead of trade deadline - TSN.ca

Yotes willing to be third party to absorb cap for assets.

OEL, Hamonic, Poolman plus 1st round pick (unconditional) to Arizona

JR needs to make the move quick and get rid of deadweights to Arizona before other teams. Vancouver needs cap space lol

To sign UFAs? You really think UFAs want to go to that bottom feeding team and waste their career playing for them? There is a reason why Arizona is offering cap space for picks and its because they have no use for it. Lets say Arizona had that precious cap space, what will they use it for? Arizona is basically selling cap space for future asset and picks which is smarter idea than use that"precious" cap space to sign UFAs that will double their price for Arizona.

I'd take this statement one step further. Arizona seems to be a place that UFAs go so that they can "stay in the league"; and hope to get picked up at the deadline by a better team.... see Galchenyuk, Boyd, Dzingel.

If those guys get too much money from Arizona, then it'll be harder to move them at the deadline to a contender.
