I’m glad the agent is trying to create a market but I will believe it when I see it.

If memory serves, Duchene and Dzingel played together in CBJ. Maybe we can added both.

So what's a deal look like? 7 years x 9.5 mil?
I would never go that high. You are talking like a GM. I go no higher than 8.5 and try to keep the term less, but Chayka likes these long contracts.

If we are actually in on this it's great news. Duchene, Stepan, Dvo and Richardson down the middle looks pretty damn good. I'd even be ok with giving up real assets to get Kessel if they brought in Duchene. We might be able to assemble a top six that all belong in the top six. We've never been able to say that in Glendale at least. Doesn't look like we'll be drafting, developing and keeping a #1 center any time soon so signing Duchene might be the only shot we have of adding a #1, even if he's not one of the elite.

Watch Conzens fall to 14OA and we draft Soderstrom because we think we are signing Duchene. Than that falls through...

But in all seriousness this is great news regardless. Not my favorite player in the league but man would his skillset fit what Chayka is going for. Speedy, north-south guy. I'm with rt, don't love it right now but if it happened IdI be ecstatic.

Skinner just got 9 and a total of 72 million and he's a winger.
I know. It’s just teams who are up against the cap are up against the cap. We may see a hold my beer moment where a team says they can pay more and then they run off to find a team to take a cap hit but reality is we were a strong part of any liquidity to that hide a bad cap hit market. How many contracts can Ottawa and Columbus take on?

Can Nashville even fit Duchene? They only have 7 million and need to sign 2 forwards (one of those can be Duchene). I know there have been rumors about dealing guys like Turris and Subban, but easier said than done.

Is it wrong that I'd prefer to add Hayes over Duchene? Could be too many years of playing against big C's who made my life miserable.

Not crazy, they might be similar in their impact on the game. They have different styles and I think Duchene's style would fit RT like a glove.

I guess the sort of lingering question I'd have is, in the clip he says "perhaps there's more capital to work with". Is that merely informed speculation based on the idea that we are in fact targeting Duchene, or is it an actual rumor with substance behind it by itself? Sounds more like the former.

Random thought: If negotiations with Columbus break down why not trade for his rights?
PERHAPS...yep I honed in on that word usage too and I definitely think it's speculation. I'm sure it went something like this...

Dreger: Who's looking at Duchene?
Credible Source: Yo AZ is hot after him, their #1 target even
Dreger: Cool thanks for th...wait...AZ?!
Credible Source: Yep, the Arizona Coyotes
Dreger: How the hell they going to afford Duchene?!?! No way they can afford him, I have to believe someone is infusing some cash, I'm betting it's the much rumored new owner
Credible Source: Yeah that'd be my guess as well because otherwise they're Grapes of Wrath level poor

Well here is the thing too.

Duchene going to Nashville is kind of a problem next season.

Duchene playing in Nashville will be a huge problem for us in two years when we move to the central.

We might make the playoffs with our division getting old and slow.

In two years?

Winnipeg
Colorado
Nashville
St Louis
Chicago
Minnesota
Dallas

Arizona

We need to go into this division with heavy fire power, because outside of Minnesota, I can say with confidence we don’t match up well with the rest of that list

I don't think that paying Duchene is the best move for this franchise going forward but.... I'd be so stoked if we landed him. Even though I don't think it's the best move, he would walk in and be our best forward for sure. I'd like the think a Keller-Duchene-Schmaltz line would be just too fast for anyone to handle. He probably fits in well with what Tocc wants to do as well. Would be such an exciting get for the franchise
