Yeah it did linger for a bit. For me, it was the fatigue that bothered me the most. Like I said, I had to take a nap during my work lunch break, I've never done that. I work from home on a laptop all day lol

That's pretty much why I compared it close to mono. Just tired all the time. Luckily mono wasn't too bad for me either when I had it, but I know people that got knocked on their ass by it. Same goes for covid obviously.

The weird thing is how different people's symptoms are. I had cold-like symptoms, my dad was coughing, my mom has the shortness of breathe as well as nausea, my GFs family that just got it (not from us) were puking non-stop. Then you have the person I got it from who was asymptomatic. It's a really strange illness

glad you got better. also, mono f***ing suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked for me back in the day

Apparently 4 people in the UK who got the vaccine got a side of Bells Pallsy with it. Australia is having cases of people vaccinated having false positives for HIV now.

I'll wait on the sideline thank you. The cynic in me believes the true clinical trial begins now.

Yeah I'm not anti vaccinations but I'm simply not rushing out to get this one. I'm not a high risk so I'll just keep wearing a mask and doing the same safety precautions I've been doing all along that have worked so far, plus I don't believe the Devils or Red Bulls will be allowed to have fans anyway anytime soon so not like I have any plans to be in large gatherings of people. Figure I'll get it towards the end of 21 or just 22 if things are going smoothly.

The Bell's Pallsy that came up in the clinical trials is right in line with what you would expect in the general population (4 in 40,000 for the trial vs 30 in 100,000 in the general population) so I think its a bit of stretch at this point to link the vaccine to causing Bell's pallsy.

This. We also have no evidence that it was even the vaccine that caused it yet primarily too, but people are already making assumptions. You know what they say about assumptions. Let the scientist and investigators do their jobs.

Get ready for every damn thing that happens to vaccinated people to be blamed on the vaccine.

Mostly by the same people that told us for months that Covid was not bad because the flu also kills people.

And the same people that thought masks dont help. The spread of misinformation leaks so badly among those not informed. It is sad.

Four people out of 21000 in the trial.

Put differently, if you take the vaccine, you have a 99.99991% chance of it not giving you Bell's Palsy.

Edit, I'm sorry, four out of 38,000. So a 99.99999% chance of not getting it.

They'll probably have to be tested more often I assume,
they say half of Americas are gonna refuse to get vaccinated

For what it's worth, I'm one of those "half" people. (and that doesn't sound weird at all)

I would rather wait to see if there are any side effects to that vaccine for those who first take it before I take it myself.

Hope that when the vaccine becomes available that the NHL players taking it are fine afterwards.

People are confused, scared and angry...I think it is very important not to chastise anyone for their opinion...It only creates unnecessary division. I think providing information is a better approach to condescension...That way people can be more informed to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

There is a good series called the Road to the Vaccine you can see on Youtube. There are many episodes, this one is a vaccine update from early October, there are many worth listening to. I personally trust Dr. Paul Stoffels, he is the first part of the video.

Definitely important to not chastise people for their opinions.

I havent seen these videos, but J&Js vaccines are different than the ones being rolled out right now, right? Aren't the ones being used RNA vaccines and J&Js aren't? I may be wrong on that though

I do think them being the first RNA vaccine ever in history is a valid reason to question its effects and effectiveness.

That's true. JnJ decided to go with the adenovirus vector platform....Here is an article on the Pros and Cons of each.

From adenoviruses to RNA: the pros and cons of different COVID vaccine technologies

NY Times broke down the differences in this article too.

Even if you want to have that cynical viewpoint, the vaccine(s) will be given to the essential workers and rich/connected folks way before us so it's not like there won't be a lot of data to digest by the time any of us would ever be able to get it. And let's be honest, there's too much money and prestige riding on this for all these companies, any misstep will cost someone billions of dollars.

"None has been established. "I cannot make a direct connection with the vaccine and suspect this is a coincidence," Dr. Hinman says. "The normal incidence of Bell's palsy is roughly 20 people out of 100,000. The Pfizer study examined 38,000 patients, so four cases would be within the normal observed incidence of Bell's palsy."

And that false positive hiv one that the aussies scrapped? Not Pfizer or Moderna.

Stop. Just stop dude.

And if you choose not to at least provide a credible link.

I genuinely hope ticketbastard follows through on their promise of papers.

I do not have any desire to be around folks with your disposition.

And the problem is that you won't "wait on the sideline", you'll be walking around with the rest of us.

Have some sense of the social contract dude.

Definitely important to not chastise people for their opinions.
On the contrary, it's absolutely integral and necessary to not only chastise, but assail people for their entirely uneducated opinions on this matter.

We're staring down the barrel of 500k dead Americans and a destroyed economy.

So when, in your view, is the appropriate time to "chastise" people?

You don't belittle people if you want them to understand what you're talking about or change their opinions to agree with you. That just ends up making people more ignorant.

But that's just my opinion.

I don't believe I was belittling you but take no issue with doing so to anyone who is actively and/or ignorantly hurting not only myself, but the people I care about.

This is no longer an opinion. It is life or death. Feast or famine.

Feel about it as you wish, but any opinion otherwise is counterproductive and imo, harmful.

The early returns were that it was sort of worse than the flu shot in terms of feeling gross the rest of the day and since then, according to reports from the UK, a couple of people with severe allergies needed their epi-pens after the shot. I'm not sure what about the shot would trigger that response but I'm guessing it's more the stabilizers and the like than the active part of the shot itself which wouldn't work that quickly I'd imagine.

1. I'm not an anti vaxxer AT ALL.
2. I'm sorry you're that bothered by "antivaxxers and skeptics"
3. Regardless of whether or not they would've fallen into having Bells anyway, my point wasn't wrong. These people got the vaccine and then had Bells shortly thereafter. What you decide to think of that is up to you, I'm going with it's probably coincidental.
4. I will take the vaccine, I won't be lining up to get it but I will take it. Thanks for all the angst and assumptions though.
5. I have been masked, sanitized, tested just about as much as you can because I am taking this extremely seriously as I'd like to NOT have to bury someone I love or be the reason someone else has to bury their loved ones.

I'm in the same boat. I believe this is one of the first (if not THE first) RNA vaccines, and the long term effects are not known.

I also generally don't get vaccines because there's some question as to whether I'm allergic to eggs or not, and many vaccines are cultured in chicken eggs.
