Anecdotally I’ve heard Moderna 1st shot is fine and 2nd shot is bad and Pfizer is the other way around. If true, the “worst” is already behind me! (And that was just a sore arm.)
I was lucky I never really felt much of anything from Pfizer #1 or #2 other than maybe someone knuckle-punched my shoulder. Felt nothing from the first shot, after the second I had a few times over the next few days where something felt a little "off" from time-to-time (not nausea, fatigue, fever, aches, or chills), but no actual identifiable side-effects.

On an unrelated note, I noticed my 5G has been working amazingly well lately... :sarcasm:

Both my Pfizer shots were fine. Sore arm but nothing more. My son had mild body aches with his second. My daughter just had a sore arm with her 1st Moderna, but the second shot led to vomiting.

So up in Canada where I live, we are still dealing with Covid restrictions and no kids sports, etc. Is the North Carolina area all 100% opened up now? You can go to a restaurant with no masks? You can have people over inside your house? Just curious. I see the Canes fans at the games and makes me so happy to see us back to somewhat normal. I doubt we will be allowed any sort of crowds at sporting events until Fall in Canada. As a lifelong Whalers/Canes fan, made my first ever trip to Raleigh last year to run the marathon and take in a couple Canes games. It was amazing to be in such a beautiful city like Raleigh, and I can't wait to travel again and come back.

As far as the government is concerned, almost all restrictions are lifted. Capacity and distancing limits are no more, and mask requirements are only applicable in certain settings (e.g. hospital, public transit).

That being said, private businesses are still able to set their own rules so there's an uneven landscape at the moment. It seems the majority of businesses are either still requiring masks, or asking unvaccinated people to continue wearing them on an honor system. At this point it's largely down to just paying attention to the rules posted at the door.

But yes, it's very quickly starting to feel like "real life" again. This afternoon I'm attending an on-site work gathering for the first time since March 2020, and yesterday was the first time I've been offered an in-person meeting by a corporate partner. The Canes games feel more or less like normal Canes games. Restaurants feel like normal restaurants. Starting to see ads for concerts and festivals again. Etc.

That is great tarheelhockey! So good to hear life is getting back to normal in Raleigh and most of the USA. Hope we in Canada follow suit soon. However our biggest most populated province (Ontario) is on I don't know what lockdown....3 or 4. They don't even allow outdoor sports. Can't even golf outside. Listen, I am all for safety and science and I have my 1st shot of Pfizer already, but I think its bonkers we are not allowing golf in Ontario or that our kids have to wear masks all day at school (which is fine and understandable indoors) but they also make them wear them outside at school during recess. The restrictions in Canada vary so much from province to province and there seems to be no cohesive answer. Its good to see the USA coming back to life again.

Looks like I may be going back to the office July 19th...can't say I'm exactly looking forward to that, hoping my team lead will be fine with us continuing to work from home.

think my role is moving to a hybrid type thing where we won't have permanent desks, but will have space we can go on-site and camp if needed. i anticipate only going on-site a day or two a month. my job can be performed entirely remotely, as evidenced by the past 15 months. they don't have much of a leg to stand on for sending us back on site the majority of the time.

I've heard similar from my employer, but it seems like managers/leads have some influence over what their direct reports will be able to do.

Though, I'm currently looking at some roles at IQVIA and Coinbase so it may not be something I should give much thought to

My work won't commit but is doing everything in it's power to convince people it's a good idea to come back. Meanwhile we have near constant WebEx meetings that even in the office we are not to attend in person. I guess they want us at our desks dialing into meetings all day.

This is where you send a message by spending half an hour every morning taping up pictures of family, setting out mementos of vacations, hanging your degree on the wall, etc.

I started a new role at the beginning of the year that I probably should to be onsite for 2-3 times per week in order to perform optimally. But I'm not looking forward to it. It'll be a long time before either my company or my client compels anyone to come back, so this'll be about willpower.

A Covid side effect.

I’ve pretty much worked from home for the last 12 years. Funny enough, the company hired some Agile expert a few years back, and most everyone who worked from home had to return to the office full time by edict. Luckily, I didn’t have to.

Said expert has now moved on, and post covid, the company is saying a large % will remain WFH

I think Agile/Scrum has done a lot of good, and many of its principles are wise with regard to how work gets done and how and when it actually provides value...

...but I’m constantly amazed at its rigidity in the face of stuff like this given its general MO of adaptability, constant learning, etc.

When I got certified ~5 years ago I connected with my Scrum Trainer on LinkedIn. Now daily I see his comments on various articles and posts, essentially crapping on anything and everything as “not being agile” (“unSAFe” being his favorite pejorative) while providing nothing helpful.

In general, it’s easier when cults don’t have good ideas, but unfortunately with Scrum you’re left trying to splice the helpful from the fanatical.
