Not to mention his issues with concussions in recent years and his struggle with that. We'll hear what he has to say, but I would venture to guess the main reason is he doesn't want to risk any more damage to his health.

And the guy's had an accomplished career.

I really hope that him and his family are okay physically and mentally. Life and family is more important than hockey and we all need time to heal or step away from the other less importnat things we love. I as well as the media and fans really shouldn't have a right to know what is going on. It is his personal business. That being said. if he knew prior to the signing that all this was going on and there was a good possibility that this was going to happen, it really isn't fair to the team and fans to leave them hanging without a goalie. Unless he informed the team prior to the signing. Either way. I wish him luck.

All the best to him, a crucial piece of a salary cap-era dynasty. As a Kings fan and a hockey fan, I'll always have fond memories of that '14 playoffs series. It was great seeing two goalies who were such competitors go up against one another in what was a murderer's row of offensive talent on either side.
