Our only hope is that these guys think of the fans here and their long term security and Doofus Dorion is able to get them to do a sign and trade to get some valuable assets from whoever takes them on, adding them so like the rest of the league, the new team in playing to win the prize in the short term.

I just hope that on the way out these guys mention that publicly that they would have liked to stay but realize ownership puts absolutely no value on trying to be champions. Maybe that will be enough to make corporate ticket buyers and sponsors drop out next year and get the losses to a level that forces to ScrooEuge to divest.

My problem is if we can't afford to sign them, then why in the hell did they ever trade for Duchene in the first place? This team is run by complete idiots. From the top on down. I will gladly never go to a game again as long as Melnyk is here.

This is fully on Melnyk.

Um..teams can wait he can be a ufa
Ya right, if a player of his calibre becomes available, there will be a bidding war for his rental services for a playoff run.

16 teams will make the playoffs and hopefully at the tdl there are 22 or so in contention. What we need is a first from a team that misses, then a lottery win.

The only positive of the inevitable fire sale and likely extremely poor return is the further exposure to just how incompetent and dishonest this team has been run under current ownership and will hopefully expedite an ending to this nightmare.
This is pretty much my attitude towards everything that happens with the Sens now.

Why didn't we do that same thing with Karlsson to maximize his value?

Instead we traded him when only 3-4 teams could actually fit his contract in so that he wouldn't distract us from finishing in last place when we don't have a 1st round pick.

Yeah, just like "Most important trade of the rebuild":laugh::help:

Remember, this is Dorion making the trade.

The most important trade of the rebuild has, essentially, netted us Josh Norris and a likely late round first rounder. Tierney and Demelo are filler and won't be here in 2 years.

Based on that, Duchene should result in a 2nd rounder.

Lol we are not gonna get that same package as we given up to acquire him. The returns most likely a late first, mid b prospect, and return contract to balance the books. I dont trust PD the way he handled EK.

Who knows what is really going on. ‘Sources’ have both claimed that talks are heating up and cooling off. Who knows what’s really going on.

Duchene and Stone are gone. The team simply can't afford to pay them. We've had A YEAR AND A HALF to negotiate these deals. It ain't happening. The sooner people come to grips with this the better off they'll be.

Oh we can afford to pay them, that’s not as issue in the slightest. Melnyk just doesn’t want to pay them.

I am slowly accepting that s fire sale is upon us. Dorions is going to get at least 3, maybe 4 first rounders top prospects for all the UFAs and Craig Anderson. Then, they will tank next year and get in on the Lafreniere sweepstakes. They will acquire more Gaborik style contracts and get to the floor.

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but yesterday was demoralizing . The coaching staff is so inept . Loom at the Isles. If that isn't the blueprint moving forward, getting a grade A coach, then I don't know what is. Montreal too.

Go young and get Quenneville in here to teach these kids right. They will have all kinds of money left over to do it.

Yeah Dorion throwing assets away left and right and running this team into the ground surely has nothing to do with Duchene not wanting to re-sign long-term.

Dorion was given a mandate from ownership. Cut costs under the guise of a rebuild. He did what he was asked.

If Dorion alone ran the franchise into the ground why the heck would an owner not only keep him around but extend his contact??

If he was supposed to cut salary at any cost why did he:

Neglect to deal Karlsson with Ryan's 7.25M contract last trade deadline

Trade for Boedker and his 3M salary
instead of dealing Hoffman for picks

Trade for Duchene (6M) instead of dealing Turris for Girard/Kamenev/2nd

Sign Ceci to a 4.3M deal (offering him more on a long-term deal)

Prematurly sign the tandem of Anderson and Condon for 7M

Neglect to trade Smith's 3.25M salary before he predictably regressed

For a guy who's supposed job is to save Melnyk money at any cost, he's sure not going a great job.

Truth is that a lot of the trades he has made have not only made the team worse but also older and more expensive.

Dorion is absolutely a big part of the reason why the team is the joke of the league, and attempts to brush off his astounding incompetence as simply following Melnyk's orders are laughable.

Hey I'm not arguing that Dorion isn't a dog shit GM. But Melnyk hired him and if Dorion isn't acting in his best interest he should be fired and not extended. The fact he was extended after executing these poor extensions you speak of is 100% on Melnyk.

The players salary is approx 10M lower in real dollars compared to last season. So yeah, he is cutting costs.

Possible that they are just keeping quiet. Which would be a welcome change.

Let’s wait and see how things play out.

Fan speculation, pretty sure Duchene couldn't care less whether Stone signs or not, he's made it abundantly clear, literally since the day he got here, that he wants no part of a rebuild.

Another great decision by management, great foresight. I can't imagine they didn't forsee him not wanting to resign when they are telling everyone who would listen that they are rebuilding, just questionably management time after time.

Actually in the offseason Duchene mentionned in an interview that he would get together with Stone and talk about what happens going forward and what were their intentions relating to staying in Ottawa and that he liked it here (being close to home, family and friends). Also mentionned it wasn't a rebuild and more of a retool.

Not saying any of this is true but Duchene did say it.

I actually think we should trade both Stone and Duchene if we aren't going to sign both of them. There is a risk we could improve next year, just enough to miss out on a blue-chip 1st roundehr, which would totally mess up this "rebuild".

Need to ensure we are awful next year too.
