At some point, they're going to remake The Hunt for Red October and it's going to be so bad.

Submarine movies have a decent hit rate, though. Das Boot (long but worth it), U571 (good compared to stuff today). There's another one I'm forgetting.

U-571 is absolute horseshit.

Like many shows even though it had an ending it sort of fizzled out. It was great right up until the end though.
I checked out for the most part after Ragnar was gone although I did like most of the Bjorn stuff. Ivar ruined the show for me, could not stand him, took me a long time to come back to it.

The Ivan character got better towards the end. They made him less of a cartoonish villain. The Kiev story was solid. The Iceland story was meh to me though. I agree post Ragnar it lost its way.

Yeah he was just way too over the top for me early on but was much better the last season.

I don't remember. I think Crimson Tide was the one that was mediocre when it came out and graduates to not bad if you watch it now.

Haha, it's an ok production.

I was alluding to the fact that the Enigma machine/code was cracked in Britain, like a year before that film is set. Also, bon jovi sucks.

I read "A Man Called Intrepid". I also saw Bon Jovi open for 38 special on the first leg of a tour and when they returned in a few months "Slippery When Wet" had hit and 38 Special was opening for them.

The Enigma code was first cracked by the Poles, and Bon Jovi isnt that bad. I mean, he wasnt when I was 6 anyway.

I think a week ago I said somewhere I started Attack on Titan... and I binged it in less than a week, so damn good.

But now I'm trying to think of what to watch next lol. I watched an episode or 2 of Code Geass, One Punch Man, and One Piece but they haven't pulled me in just yet. Not the biggest fan of like futuristic anime's but I heard Code Geass has an amazing story/ending so I'm thinking about just sticking with that one. One Punch Man is funny but like, if he beats everything in one punch than I already know how it's going to go ahaha, but maybe he doesn't? Idk. One Piece is so damn long too lmao, I'll watch that here and there. Another one I was thinking of is My Hero Academia, heard good things about it.

Anyone have the X Box Series X? I’ve had all the xboxes to date and it’s alway been a huge thing as far as the next generation stuff when it gets released.

It’s weird cause every launch has had some really noticeable advances in graphics and gameplay along with the some of big titled games.

I haven’t seen any new must have games at all or holy shit that’s amazing graphics or gameplay type stuff with this new system. I’m kinda bummed, seems there’s really no new games available or any hype at all compared to other launches.

Pc hasn't really pushed too much further ahead the last 3-4 yrs either. Also a lot of games are being held back because they need to play on the previous generation hardware due to the silicon shortages limiting them to how many consoles can be put into the wild and sold. Quality of life changes have been the biggest leap so far this gen. Ms is finally starting to ramp up next gen only production on games. Fm8/flight sim console edition/ fable 4 / perfect dark / avowed / starfield etc etc

I know a little about some of the chip shortages and what not from the last year and supply chain issues. I don’t caee to about the quality of life stuff at all, I just want new games.

Its just weird to me that there’s a new system out there with barely any games at all for it. Even with the issues of the last year or so games take years and years to make with drops of info and videos years ahead of launch but there’s been absolutely nothing.

Is any of that related to the relative slowing of TV tech? At one point you had an HD Xbox and then a 4K. But consumers don’t seem to be clamoring for better TVs. OLEDs aren’t perfect and 8k is available but not in real mainstream commercial availability. Is there anything great about the latest Xbox compared to the last one? I’m not sure which one my kids have and only the youngest plays it at this point. From what I’ve seen with them the Xbox is a substitute for hanging out with friends when they are home and don’t feel like getting together or were forced into quarantine. The social element may be just as important as the games themselves to many kids.

That’s what I don’t get about the new Xbox, in the past my friends couldn’t wait to get the latest system, now they’re all sticking to the old one. With each generation there’s always better graphics, faster processing, higher frame rates etc, just better and more immersive gameplay. There are 4K games but most stuff is still 1080 and I think that’s all you need. Some of the systems in the past have been more of a half step I guess instead of a generational leap, maybe this is what’s going on.

They always had some big game or franchise releases with the new systems like a Halo or a new Battlefield, GTA, Tom Clancy (Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon). There’s tons of others, these are just the ones I like but there hasn’t been anything.

Like you said though the social element is huge, that will never change. It’s one of the best things about Xbox live, kinda nerdy stuff, I’m old as hell and have friends from all over the world. Some of whom are the most legit, best people I’ve ever known over the last 15 years but we’re always clamoring over what’s the new game we can get so we can hang out.

At some point they will develop plasma field projection hologram tv. Until then maybe they can add a bit of resolution and tweak the processing software but not much about the viewing experience will change. There is VR but that is not a group thing the way tv is.

COVID really messed with development schedules. Add the chip shortage and big companies loving the Blizzard/Fortnite model of milking something for decades, and here we are. The cloud model is coming too and that's gonna hold back developers who want to push the graphics / immersion edge too.

Also think the Cyberpunk and Red Dead fiascos were a big wakeup call. People just aren't going to be run into the ground anymore to meet marketing's dumb idea of when the best launch is. After porn, these are the most in-demand pieces of entertainment in the history of man, you'll be fine if you push it back to make sure it works.

The new generation of consoles are pretty much useless and not needed, not to mention barely any games at the moment too.

Also PC for life :nod::naughty:

I'm in a weird place when it comes to gaming. I haven't really played anything new for like a year or so now. In fact I recently hooked up both my PS3 and PS2 and have gone back and played some old games. I think I'm slowly becoming that old person that doesn't like new stuff.

There's really no reason to buy games at launch any more. Most games are broken and incomplete at launch. Better to wait a year or two and catch it on a Steam sale for cheaper after it gets fixed. Unless it's Nintendo which I buy Day 1, but those are almost always single player games and Nintendo is pretty good about polishing them (I mean really, how could they screw up something like Pokemon Snap or Fire Emblem?).

In 2021 I played through he Mass Effect trilogy and The Witcher 3 for the first time. ME1 was a chore even with the remaster, I can't imagine paying full price to slog through that on my shitty Windows XP PC back in 2007. And I got Witcher 3 + all DLC for $10. I also put about 100 hours into State of Decay 2 and caught up on my DLC for Europa Universalis 4 for much cheaper.

Just wait and play games later, you'll save money and get a better experience. Consumers need to stop rewarding companies for releasing unfinished shit early just so they can brag about their pre-order numbers to investors.

I bought Witcher 3 with all DLC for like $5 a few years after it came out and that also set me into the mindset of just staying a few years behind the industry for most games.

I picked up Cyberpunk for $17 dollars on PC over the weekend. So far I’m enjoying it.

@AfroThunder396 if you play EU do you also play Crusader Kings? I started with EU but now Crusader Kings is my paradox title of choice. I use it mostly as a eugenics simulator.

The one I think should be my favorite is Victoria 2 but it’s so weird and hard to understand. I unfortunately don’t have the time to learn it all.

Victoria 3 being the more user friendly(dumbed down) version may be perfect for me.
