Pretty simple, how many points do you think Connor will get in his rookie season should he stay healthy the whole year?

I'll be that guy to call 95 points, easily being the highest scoring rookie since Crosby.

Mods, I searched to try and find a thread like this but couldn't find one. Should there be, close accordingly. Thanks.

If you look at this past season's stats, anything over 70 points would put him in the top 20, and anything over 80 points would be in the top 5!!

I would be more than happy if he ends up over 70 in his first season. The NHL is too low scoring.

I would love it if McDavid scored 95 in his rookie season, but I dont see it happening. League scoring is way down and Crosby finished 6th in scoring his rookie year. 6th in scoring this past season was only 78 points.

If McDavid gets between 70-80 points I'd be thrilled

I agree. I went with 60-69, leaning towards the high end of that range

I said 100+ just because I am giddy as a school girl, and unbridled enthusiasm is the the order of the day.

But, if push comes to shove, realistically, I would say 60-70.

I feel with rule changes though, the point totals can change. 3-on-3 OT is sure to up it a little bit. I also believe it'll be breakthrough in general for players like Benn, Seguin, Tavares (not to say this past year wasn't a breakthrough - I just think they are able to get more points) and getting Crosby back to the 100 point range.

I voted 60-69 but after reviewing the rookie scoring leaders over the last few years, I really think 75-80 is about right.

If he got 70 points as our second line center I would be absolutely thrilled. Just seems terribly unrealistic.

I have a hard time seeing him getting even 60.

How have you guys not had your expectations beat out of you yet?

I've had the pleasure of watching tons of his games while working at TSN. The comparisons are there for a reason.

I haven't seen hockey sense like his since Gretzky. The way he can hold on to the puck with speed is ridiculous and he can find anyone on the ice with a pass. He's definitely special which is why I think he will get as many points as I posted up there.

Likely depend on who he plays with and how well they can anticipate his game and match his speed.

If he gels with Hall or Yakupov, oh momma.

Would also be interesting to see him with Eberle.

Holy crap, the options seems infinite

50-59 would be good enough for me. He will not be the go to guy offensively for us as a rookie.

I voted 60-69.

Personally my estimate ranges are a bit wider, due to uncertainty of what league scoring will be like. I would say anywhere from 50-80 is plausible, depending on what happens due to the rule changes

If he plays the full season then he should be top 10 in league scoring. He's considered a generational player for a reason.

I'm keeping my expectations low for him in his rookie season. Stamkos had 45 points and Tavares had 56 pts if I recall in their rookie seasons.

Happy with 50-59 point range.

WAY TOO MUCH for a first year player, generational talent or not....

Considering only one of our top players barely cracked the 60 point level ( Eberle-63, RNH-58, Hall-38 ) after a few years in the NHL. He's gonna be average, maybe in the 40-point range for the year and I'll take it. In spades.

Saving this team from harming itself shouldn't be put onto 1 kid. Let him play his game, get his toes wet, before we push him into the deep and tell him he has to tread water for the whole team. The team is gonna need to let him adapt to the NHL, get comfortable, and then wipe out all of Gretzky's records.

First year though, treat him like he's 18.

Cheers,
