I mean I think he'll win, but I don't know, the PHWA tends to "get clever" about this stuff, plus their myopic and lazy.
I think it’s just tough to argue 2 guys from the same team are the most valuable to their team. If Leon is maybe the most valuable to his team, then why is Connor on the list? And vice versa.Did they purposely not have Leon on here because he should be.
If he doesn't win, the PWHA will probably need to be disbanded and whatever comes in it's wake will have strongly review membership. He'll win, but I'm anticipating a surprising amount of first place votes to the other two because of some PHWA writers as you mentioned who seem to either like to make awards voting about themselves to get clicks and justify their pay cheques, or some only follow their own teams and are super-biased.

It does. Until you see Marner had more points than Matthews and Rantanen mote points than MacKinnon this year. That makes a lot of sense.

The guy who got snubbed here is Marchand IMO. Should have been likely McDavid, Marchand and anyone else with McDavid winning unanimously.
So NHL.com lists all of the award finalists alphabetically for all of the awards in the articles on their site.
MacKinnon, Matthews, McDavid named Hart Trophy finalists
For the Hart trophy Sportsnet listed McDavid first, presumably because McDavid is the frontrunner.
McDavid, Matthews, MacKinnon named finalists for Hart Trophy - Sportsnet.ca
The Toronto Sports Network unsurprisingly lists Matthews first in their Hart trophy article headline. Anybody thinking this is anything other than purely intentional hasn't been paying attention.
Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon named Hart Memorial finalists - TSN.ca

Also McDavid had 24 EV goals and 68 EV points which was more than everybody had total points except Draisaitl, and Marchand who had 69 points. Mackinnon had 20 goals and 65 points total (although in 8 fewer games) with 40 of those points at even strength. If you extrapolate out for a full season for Mackinnon that's 23 goals and 76 points. Mattews meanwhile had 53 EV points including 31 EV goals, and prorated would have had 71 points in 56 games. Anyways, the point is McDavid obliterated the league at evens and on the PP.
