I don't know if this was mentioned, but with McDavid having stitched up his third Art Ross, I wondered who else had won it at least three times. The list was actually even shorter than I expected, and those names that he'll be joining... let's just say I've heard of a couple of them.

The fact that he has more assists than any of his non teammates have points is Gretzky level dominance and something that I never saw as being possible in this day and age.

I just went through every NHL season since Gretz broke into the league and this is what I found:

Gretzky
'82-83 125 assists, Stastny 124 points
'84-85 135 assists, Coffey 135 points, Hawerchuk 130 points
'85-86 163 assists, Lemieux 141 points
'86-87 121 assists, Kurri 108 points

Connor is sitting at 71 assists which is more than every other player not named Draisaitl has points (Drai has 84 points currently, the 3rd highest scorer is Brad Marchand with 69 points). That is only a little less impressive than Wayne's dominance in the '84-85 season where Coffey was the 2nd leading scorer and had as many points as Gretz had assists. It's crazy to see how dominant that Connor has been this season and then realize that he likely still isn't as dominant as Wayne was in his prime. That said there is no doubt that this season is a historic one for Connor and hopefully only the beginning of a stretch that rivals any player that didn't wear #99.

Top 10 in scoring | Points behind McDavid:
1) McDavid 56gp. 33-72-105 1.88 points/game | -
2) Draisaitl 56gp. 31-53-84 1.50 points/game | 21
3) Marchand 53gp. 29-40-69 1.30 points/game | 36
4) Marner 55gp. 20-47-67 1.22 points/game | 38
5) Matthews 52gp. 41-25-66 1.27 points/game | 39
6) Rantanen 52gp. 30-36-66 1.27 points/game | 39
7) P. Kane 56gp. 15-51-66 1.18 points/game | 39
8) MacKinnon 48gp. 20-45-65 1.35 points/game | 40
9) Scheifele 56gp. 21-42-63 1.13 points/game | 42
10) Crosby 55gp. 24-38-62 1.13 points/game | 43

If you took out his PP production and only factored in his ES scoring (68 points) he would still be the 3rd leading scorer in the league behind only Draisaitl and Marchand.

That's some serious points separation from McDavid to those behind him. Pro rated over a full season and he's getting into territory of some of the greats.

The downside to the 56 game season is McDavid was on pace for 100+ assists if it was a normal length season. Would be only the fourth player to accomplish that. Hopefully next season.
