I'm really hoping McDavid hits 110 and 40 goals now. Should be doable, hope he hits at least 2 points today.

Well it sure can't get any worse.

Most likely this is to give Woodcroft more time to work on his custom "mistakes you made last night" videos for the players. He also has to compile his "mistakes you made last year" videos for all the players to take home and watch all summer long.

His brilliant mind needs some time away from the PP that the dumb players aren't executing anyways.

Been on holiday, and just checking in time to time. GOilers!

What have the lines looked like, & is Lucic looking better in the third line?

What are your takes on the depth chart for the oilers going forward? With Nuge and Drai both able to play wing (and one probably should), I don’t even know anymore... who am I missing, misplacing?

LWCRW
NugeMcDDrai
LucicDraiAberg
SlepyNugeRatti
CagStromePuljujarvi
KhairaKassian
Yamo
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
LDRD
KlefbomLarsson
NurseBenning
RussellBear
SekeraAvitu
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Lines going forward ...

Nuge - McDavid - RW1
Aberg?/LW2 - Draisaitl - JP?
Lucic - Strome - RW3
Cagguila - Khaira - Kassian?
Extra: Slesphev, Pakarinen

RW1 options - Rattie, Yamamoto, FA signing
LW2 options - Aberg or FA signgings
RW3 options - Yamamoto, Slepshev, Aberg, JP or FA signings

I think the forward group needs at least 2 forward signings or trades that have the ability to play in top 6 and probably 1 forward who can play in the top 9. I think it would be a mistake to assume that Rattie or Yamamoto will fill this role. Bring in 2 players and if Rattie or Yamamoto beat them out, thats fine. I dont really see how this team can bring anyone significant in unless they can rid of Lucic's contract (good luck) or trade RNH (which they shouldnt unless its an overpay). They will have to find some cheap players who they project to have a good season.

Defense:
Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - RD2
Sekera - Russell/Benning
Extra: Auvitu, Bear?

Defense ... I dunno here. Too many defense on this team make 4+ million. In a perfect world they should be trying their best to get Carlson (good luck), or Green (on a reasonable contract as hes 32). Beyond these two guys, I am not sure theres much out there. If they could get one of these guys, they would probably want to move one of Russell or Sekera (but they have nmc i believe). If Klefbom or Sekera dont improve, they are in some serious trouble. The defense is so up in the air on this team. They were pretty good last year. Bad this year. Making a panic move could be a mistake. I do think they need to bring in some more offense though. I think once again it would be a mistake to pencil Bear in for next year. Bring in some players and if he beats them out, then fine. I think Auvitu is good for a #7 but if McLellan is here next year, theres probably no point bringing him back because he doesnt like to play him.

I personally dont think that Karlsson, or OEL are practical options. The cost will be too great. Sure they have the assets in theory but the problem with this team is depth, lack of skill on the wings and lack of offense from the defense. Trading for these players just guts a team with poor depth to bad depth. No point addressing for a hole if it makes more holes.

Goaltending:
Talbot
Montoya/Backup

I think this year has shown that Talbot needs help. I dont think Montoya is a good enough backup. I still believe in Talbot, but management has to address goaltending imo, in case it struggles again. Theres no one in the system coming up (at least for next year). Goaltending is such a crap shoot. Goalies can look awesome one year and terrible the next year. Out of the goaltenders out there, I am not sure who the best bet is for a backup.

At the end of the day this team needs much better depth. They need to address the team in all 3 areas - Offense, Defense, and Goaltending. Furthermore this team doesnt have much if any internal depth to cover these holes. As mentioned I think its a mistake to pencil in players like Yamamoto, Rattie, Bear etc into the line up. If they make it on merit, its one thing, but they shouldnt make it because the team has no one else to use.

I think the team is better than what it is shown this year. But this team needs to bring players imo because help isnt coming from the AHL. Chiarelli counted on internal depth this year and it failed. I dont think they need to bring in all-starts, but the depth has to be improved. They have to create competition for these spots. Its not an easy fix. Lucic/Sekera/Russell contracts make it tough to build around with the existing McDavid/Draisaitl and RNH contracts. You dont want to make the team worse by panic trades like we have seen in the past.

Nothing like 35K posts says that..

OK, I'm joking around, Irony of me saying that noted;)

Face it, we're lifers.
No joke, this has been the toughest year as an Oilers fan. I've tuned out so many games this year or just plain didn't watch. If there isn't significant upgrades next year... I really don't know.

Hey guys, CBJ fan and 13 year old kid in town for tonight's game. Would appreciate recommendations on things to do before the game. Thank you in advance.

Take a look around at the Arts district. View the Art Gallery, Winspear, Citadel Theater facilities. Go to the Shaw Conference Center or our new Funicular (by Hotel Macdonald) to get another view. Both offer free rides to the river valley. 104st from Jasper Avenue north has some eclectic offerings. The Neon museum outdoor installation by The Mercer. (Kitty corner from Rogers place) is nice to look at after game.

DT Edmonton really changing, lots of construction going on but you've seen that before coming from Columbus. If you have any time tomorrow hit up Whyte Avenue on the southside, any 13 yr old would like the shops and district there as would any adult.

Welcome and enjoy the game. Oilers are a lot better club than the standings indicate. We're also excellent spoilers..;)

PS make sure to look around at the exterior of the Arena after dark. Stroll around. Unique lighting, screens etc. The Arena really looks different in the dark. Its a safe area anywhere around 104ave or DT. This is a pretty safe walking city. Too bad Entertainment district and the towers are not finished.

Only a few players have regressed pretty hard. McDavid, Drai, RNH are about as good as they've always been. Strome is the same.

Lucic is a black hole of suck. Kassian is a ghost. Klefbom has obviously been hurt and Sekera looks like he still is.

Goaltending issues prevail.

It's extremely obvious that last year was an overachievement for many roster players and the team as a whole.

Pretty sure I wouldn't have watched every game this year if we didn't have 97. To me this has been the worst year as well.

Killer was D and G

Nurse stepped it up but we will never know how injured both Klef and Larsson have been

If McDavid wasn't chasing down an Art Ross I wouldn't even bother.

Well they were also missing Sekera for half the season and it's clear he's not 100%.

The casino is just next door to the arena :naughty:

Serious note tho, if you like indoor climbing and cute girls, there's the Rock Jungle bouldering facility by Grant McEwen and the arena. I'm usually there.

Pretty crazy that we have better 5v5 GF/60 this year than last year. Happened to take a look today and was shocked. What a damn disaster the PP has been. In addition to PK, D in general and G of course.

Hope McLellan has been paying attention this last month and McDavid and Drai on separate lines can survive pre-season.

Good man!

heh, Thanks Bryan. I posted that before your request.

Edmonton really has become better DT, better than I thought, and its starting to come together so its unique to be excited to share some of that again. Civic pride in the DT really left here after the 80's. DT used to be fantastic back in the 70's now it will be interesting again.

We had the Red Bull crashed Ice downhill skating course again this winter just a few weeks ago and that brought in thousands of out of town fans from around the world. Quite the spectacle and we spent the whole weekend being able to show off some of the new things DT.
