Nat Faxon is a terrible actor and comedian and him playing a f***ing playboy in Friends from College is not even remotely believable.

He had a great line in Bad Teacher though

His face really bothers me in a way I can't really explain. Like when I see his face, I suddenly understand murder.

I got back from the vet with not great news. It seems like my cat is suffering from Horner's Syndrome, which is a side effect of what I'm betting is an inner ear infection. The good thing is that it's not life threatening or anything close to it, but if the antibiotics don't work (or if my cat won't let me give her the antibiotics), they may need to do surgery. It is often self-correcting, I read that 25%-42% of cases happen out of nowhere and end up fixing themselves. I'm hoping that ends up happening here and the steroids and antibiotics speed it up.

What made it worse was that I was feeling awful about this right after I left the vet, and then this old lady walks up to me and said "I think I hit your car". Luckily she didn't (or I didn't see any damage), but dear lord, talk about kicking someone when they're down already. Today's the first day in 2019 that I'm not going to the gym, I just feel drained after all of that bad news

I’ll ask my friend if she knows of anything else that might help. She’s a tech but really smart and very knowledgeable. I usually ask her stuff before I go to a vet (sometimes I don’t need too).

I asked her why she didn’t go on to become a vet because she’d be really good but she hates dealing with people too much of the time to want to do it as a career. She does a lot of extra education every year and will work part time in a specialist hospital so I think that will satisfy her career wise. She’s just happy with the animals.

EDIT: @Empoleon8771 she said it’s just a mess thing and have to wait it out and to keep your cat safe with regards to balance (on stairs and things).

Yeah, I think I just gotta wait it out. I'm assuming it's coming from an inner ear infection because she's prone to ear infections and it matches the symptoms, but I don't know that for sure. She's acting pretty normal outside of her not eating her dry food, which isn't that surprising because I don't think she likes dry food. I'll just have to wait and see how it goes, I really don't want it to get to the point of surgery, especially for something I probably unfairly blame myself for.

I just feel like **** about this, because had I been more attentive when she started sniffling about a week ago or when she was diagnosed with an ear infection in May, maybe this could have been prevented.

Opinion question, I emailed that beagle rescue on Saturday asking about the adoption process. Their website says allow for 24-48 hours to respond, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Should I wait longer to see if I get a response or should I try to contact them again?

A LOT of times Horner's is caused BY ear/head surgery. Something about inflammation/pushing on optical/other nearby nerves.

Usually clears up on its own.

I'm sure time is all your cat needs.

..might have to call the group if they have a number.

If it's important to me, I give them an extra 24-48 hours then try again. I usually acknowledge it's a second attempt, nicely, of course :)

EDIT: I also usually double check for alternate ways to contact whoever it is.

My next plan was to use the "ask about me" tool on PetFinder, because that seems like an alternate way to contact them. I'll use a different email of mine to make it obvious I wasn't contacting them for a second time though

If you contacted them through PetFinder that may be why you haven't gotten a response. If that's the case, find out how to contact the rescue directly and try again.

No, I actually sent an email directly to their account. Using the PetFinder form is what I'd do as the second option, I emailed the rescue directly originally.

My thought was that it was 24-48 business hours, and seeing how a lot of places were closed for MLK Day on Monday, the end of today would be the end of 48 hours. I think I'm going to wait until Monday and then try again if I haven't gotten a response.

Today, the misses got one of those facebook post anniversary reminders, and here's what came over:

upload_2019-1-23_16-25-20.png

That's our pup Madison 9 years ago. Maybe 8-9 weeks old, 6-7 pounds, literally within days of our old Frenchie finding her abandoned under our car.

@Empoleon8771, however you do it and however frustrating dealing with the rescue may be, I couldn't recommend adoption strongly enough. Rescue dogs know when they've been rescued, and he/she will thank you for it for the rest of his/her life.

I rescued my cat as well, so I have rescued animals before. I wouldn't even dream of getting a puppy right now, not only because it would be better to rescue if you can, but because I really don't want a puppy

The current dog I'm looking at was at a high kill shelter and was taken into a foster home, where he currently still is at. I'm going to try and contact them again in the next day or 2 probably, I'm probably not going to wait until Monday.

Oh christ. High kill shelter? Is it near you? Maybe just drive over? I wouldn't count on a call back . . .

Oh no he was at a high kill center, but he was taken into a foster home recently for a beagle specific rescue. He's not in a high kill shelter anymore, he just was according to his bio.

He was taken in by Forever Home Beagle Rescue, so I feel like the risk here is him being adopted by someone else. The website says that all of their dogs are taken into a foster home.

Phew.

Then I'd say email again when you've hit the window AND email through petfinder too.

I'd say go to their place, but google shows the address as a residence, so I'm not sure how well THAT would go over.

@DegenX is right . . . be patient. At the same time, I'd say if you're past the contact window, then reach out again through their site AND petfinder.

I sent it on PetFinder and the rescue got back to me literally within 10 minutes

They said they weren't able to do what I wanted to do, which they gave a super fair justification for doing so (every dog reserved is a dog they can't save). It was a reasonable idea to me at the time, but I didn't think of it from that angle. They said that the dog is meeting a family for a possible adoption this weekend anyway, so I think it works out fine. I'm disappointed, but I don't think this is an unreasonable result.
