Well they need to rename the city as well. Might as well do this properly. After all, Moses Cleaveland stole the land from the Indians Shawnee right? Time to make this right-WE HAVE TO GET RID OF ALL HOMAGE TO COLONIALISTS! RENAME CLEVELAND NOW

the funniest part about this thread is that 95% of the posters in it aren't even active on the baseball board. they just ventured in here to cry about "cancel culture"

New logo is brutal, looks like something that belongs on the side of a gas station or fast food joint. Guardians is weak too but I wasn’t expecting a cool name anyways.

So edgy.

Isn't it incredible? I wonder what the same people would say if the Pittsburgh Penguins changed their name? It's the team's right to brand itself however it wants. If team management wants to make a change, they're well within their rights without someone screaming "CANCEL CULTURE!!"

Yes, let's keep catering to everyone who says they're offended by something, that most certainly will work out well in the end.

I mean, if they're offended with legitimate reason like having their race openly mocked, then yes it probably will work out well in the end to stop doing that.

I like baseball, but I’m not a hardcore fan of it. I used to be, but I don’t really have the time to watch games. Hockey is easier, because screw going outside in winter if I don’t have to.

I hate the name change. Because they were named after what I am, Cleveland became my team. I didn’t like the name changing, but I got it. I hate this name it’s changed to. I wanted Spiders, which was the name before it was changed to Indians.

But the plus side is, the name change gave us this joke.

The Cleveland American League ballclub was never known as the Spiders.

The Spiders were an NL team that was contracted in 1899.

Spiders were a team that played in Cleveland, yes.

But they have nothing to do with the Cleveland Indians.

  • Cleveland Indians (1915–present)
  • Cleveland Naps (19031914)
  • Cleveland Bronchos (1902)
  • Cleveland Bluebirds (1901)
  • Cleveland Lake Shores (1900)
  • Grand Rapids Rustlers (18941899)
