Oddly enough, I have the exact opposite reaction. I don't care for the name (it's clearly an attempt to change as little as possible; the entire "dians" section of the wordmark is exactly the same), but the Winged G logo isn't bad. Someone pointed out that the Gs are positioned like a curveball grip, and while the positioning looks more like a splitter or forkball to me, that came across as pretty cool. I just wish they'd have gone back into Cleveland baseball history more, and gone with Spiders, Blues, or Naps. (I'm a fan of naming teams for famous players; I want Atlanta to consider renaming the team the Hammers, too.)
It is interesting to wonder if they love the idea of both words being so similar that they could keep using essentially the same look as in the past.Apparently they were really attached to "..dians" or something.
Why was it past time to make the change? It's utterly stupid. It was past time to make the change, but Guardians is a bit cringe. They left a lot of better names on the table.

Redskins was grossly offensive.
Indians? Come on. It's utterly ridiculous.
Better change the Fighting Irish, Highlanders, Vikings, Celtics, Knicks, Yankees, Canucks, Canadiens, etc....
Gotta change em all now. No ethnicity allowed.
Bunch of sweet shit this nonsense has become
And they got rid of it. Ta - da problem solved.Their mascot was ****ing Chief Wahoo.
There’s no way you can walk that back to “we’re trying to honor your culture”. It was blatant racial caricature. Come on now.
On top of it the name may have come from mockery of Lou Sockalexis rather than a tribute.Their mascot was ****ing Chief Wahoo.

Name is inoffensive so already better than their former name, but surely they could have picked something a lot better than Guardians.
