I’m not in the hate and blame Holl for everything camp either. There’s always someone in TO designated the whipping boy until he’s run out of town. Just look at Larry Murphy.

That said, Luke learned a lot in Tampa. He really started playing within himself and he’s actually solid these days. As long as he’s in the right position to be.

Teams will look at him this summer to sign as a partner for a young player.

As for this deadline, I actually think the Canucks should re-sign him for 2 years but looks like they’re going to move him. We shouldn’t be shocked if it’s back to the Leafs but honestly he’s not much of an upgrade to Holl. He’s more consistent in his own zone but Holl is better in transition. For the Leafs it would be more of the “make a deal to make a deal” type move with Schenn. Where there’s other teams who would clearly have more of a specific need for him. Detroit and Ottawa specifically. Maybe Buffalo.

As for the report, it was 100% speculative. So we shouldn’t be shocked but it’s probably unlikely. Much rather see a move for McCabe.

The reason people hate Justin Holl is when he's good, he's not actually good he's OK.

When he is bad he is BAD, to the point that he can, and does single handily lose games.

Case in point the game they lost to Columbus he was DRIECTLY responsible for 3 of Columbus's goals including the winner which doesn't happen if he doesn't allow a 175 pound rookie to just slide in front of him like he's cutting in line at a movie theater.

HE lost that game and It's not a1 time thing he can and does costs them games

He absolutely struggles sometimes when he tries doing too much and he does lack the ability to recover. Generally that happens when players think too much on the ice after they do make a mistake. In his case he may think too much before he makes a mistake too.

It’s funny cause a lot of dmen do outgrow this but not until they’re around 26-27… If they’d just accept who they are (and the role they play) earlier in their careers, they’d end up making more money and have a more stable spot in the NHL. Two players this year who’ve received alot of praise, Maatta and Schenn, both could’ve avoided all the moving they’ve done by just accepting it sooner in their career. It does generally come with more experience and maturity though. So maybe it’s just a natural progression.

That ship has already sailed with Holl. He’s over 30 and he is what he is. Don’t see him ever settling his game down.

That said, he does do things in transition and in the o-zone, you won’t get with Schenn. So it’s a give and take. They are such an up tempo team, with what they have already, I’m not sure there’s a place for Schenn. If they do bring him back, I also wouldn’t wager it would be to replace Holl in the lineup.

They’re going to have to make a fundamental change on D (by the deadline) before we see the last of Holl. Just don’t see that coming this season.

Doubt they re-sign him though.

Just don’t see anything happening before the deadline with him.

CJ said on his show that the Leafs now have the necessary capital to pull this trade off (their third round pick in this years draft).

Probably are surveying the market to see if they can get a bigger upgrade but if not will pull the trigger on Schenn

A 3rd for Schenn is definitely closer in value, especially if the Leafs think he'll dress for most games (but that seems far from certain).

Still think they'll look for a more comfortable second pairing quality guy. But the market may be getting a bit tight for that

It's as if Schenn barely played! Oh wait, that's because he didnt. Schenn is a solid #6/#7 but anyone thinking he's going to be a contributor is fooling themselves. He's not better than what the Leafs already have in the depth department. If Dubas does anything, it needs to be an upgrade. Schenn is not an upgrade.
I agree too many good dneb to over pay for Schenn , we need more for a cup
