He doesn't strike me as a short player. Talvitie does, Boqvist does not.
Talvitie looks stocky to me, so it can be a bit deceptive. With no reference, I kind of look short and stocky too, but I'm 6'4" and it doesn't show till I stand next to normal sized people :)

There's no way at 6'4" you look short and stocky lol

How did Smith aquit himself?

I thought Smith looked very good, but he got walked by Tolvanen on the tying goal and he wasn't able to fully seal off the wall on the zone entry. I'm sure some people will be calling him out for it. I thought he was very impressive otherwise, and had an extremely impressive play that should have led to the winning goal (if Dobson's stick didn't shatter).

If you read the main boards Smith was considered the best defenseman for Canada. Talvitie has been impressive this year. Penn State and now in the tournament. His journey seems to be unique. You see a lot of overseas players heading to juniors to get acclimated. I haven’t seen any overseas prospects come to play in college.

Yeah, nothing Smith could have done on either play. By all accounts he had a fantastic tournament and we should be stoked for it.

Nice to see Talvtitie getting on the board in the clutch. He's a player.

It’s Bouchard and Dobson the main board wants to hang on that defense.

Also Hunter.

It’s nice to see our young guys performing well, the more I see of him the more i’m confident we have a good NHL player in Talvitie. Our scouts deserve a ton of credit if that’s the case, getting another solid late round contributor so soon after drafting Bratt would be amazing and far beyond the normal hit-rate for that point in the draft.

It’s also very encouraging to see Boqvist & Smith doing so well, I personally think our ‘whiffing’ on our higher picks a little exaggerated. Zacha & Quenneville were Conte not Castron picks, the only knock against our new scouting staff is McLeod and even he’s having himself a decent first year in the AHL. He might not live up to our initial expectations but I’m still confident he’ll be an NHL contributor just because of his toolbox. Even if he turns out to be more of a speedy PK/Faceoff specialist and bottom six energy guy, that’s still an alright pick in my eyes. Yeah you could do better, but it could also have been much worse, he wasn’t even a top 10 choice, it’s not like pick 13 is going to be a slam dunk superstar player the majority of the time. I’m more than willing to forgive that if we keep unearthing gems like Bratt & Talvitie in the later rounds.

I still think they went for need with mcleod. keller/jost was probably their first choice.
