im in the same boat. I'm actually an Oilers fan and we drafted him, then randomly he was on Chicagos roster. Then last year he rattles off 60! points which is insane for a defenseman. a 3rd seems like pretty low value for someone so offensively gifted. Is he just a disaster defensively or something?

Even then, 60 pts from the back end is nothing to sneeze at
60 was some kind of miracle season for him.

Can be an offensive specialist but needs sheltered minutes. He might be a good complement to your current defense.

If he can walk the line and get a few point shots through he'd be a marked improvement over Hanifin, Giordano, and Andersson in that role. It feels as if we don't have a single point shot goal or deflection on the PP this year. Which is crazy because Tkachuk and Lindholm are both great at deflections.
He's great at getting shots through traffic and on net. He's going to give up some SH breakaways along the way.

The knock on him has always been his defensive play. Apparently it was why the Oilers weren’t high on him.

That being said he did just put up 60 points last year and if you can afford to play him on your 3rd pair with a good vet who is strong defensively, then I think this is a risk worth taking.... even though, by all accounts (CBH fans), he has been crap this year.

Fair deal for the Flames.

Curious where he'll be used. Will he pair with our other deadline pickup Forbert? Does he go up and play with Hanafin or Gio? Playing with Kylington could be interesting.

Once Hamonic gets back, I'm guessing he's replacing Kylington in the lineup and will be on the left. Potentially with Hamonic.

yea its possible. Just digging into it some more, he had 42 even strength points which makes it even more impressive IMO.

since the start of 2018-2019 he has 60 even strength points, that puts him 8th amongst all dman in the NHL

They should give him a chance with Hanafin or Gio. Last year, he produced a lot of his offense playing the right side next to Keith.

He's abysmal defensively. Though I'm still surprised he didn't land a 2nd.
His career Corsi For % at 5 on 5 is 51.6. For all categories, 56.0. This was a good pick up for the Flames and I hope they resign him to term. He is a year younger than Brodie, can play LD or RD and puts up points in a big way. He might even bump Hanifin out of the picture.

Who knows? When everyone is healthy I want to see Gio-Brodie, Hanafin-Ras, Gus-Hammer as the pairings. But until Gio gets back, I'd be open to trying Gus anywhere

So no hope for him to redo that one 60 pt season? Seems like poor value here.
Compare to all the other TDL deals, it is actually good value.

But it's a gamble like a slot machine, likely you are going to lose. Most people lose but they had fun...ok?

Also they didn't pay for a 60 pt guy
