Chara made a career out of getting away with interference on almost every shift he’s ever had, the Bruins are such a classless team. It’s absolutely crazy how little they actually spend in the box.

The NHLs “let them play” philosophy in the playoffs is nothing but a tax on the best skilled players - which in part why league reffing is a joke compared to any other major pro sport.

This has been going on for years. Chara commits a penalty every shift, but gets away with it for reasons.

" this has been going on for years " can also refer to Tavares. Cheap shots against him with little to no support from teammates. He is used to it.

Bruins are a dirt team who commit a penalty on every shift. The refs have to let them get away with it or else how can you have a game where one team is in the box the entire time?

That’s simply just Boston hockey. You have to commit your aggressions first, early and in high volume and sneaky.

Leafs players need to watch some Rock Em Sock Em and familiarize themselves with NHL playoff hockey next time they make it.

So without provocation Marchand cross checked Matthews in the back of the head... and Chara suckered Tavares... sounds about right for the NHL.

When you rely on authority for fairness, this is what you usually get especially when the authority you're appealing to respects strength.

In other NHL organizations they would start preparing for their next meeting in 2019-20. Scores would be settled. With this organization, they'll go about rolling the same boulder up the same hill to prove something is true that has never been true in the history of contact sports.

I don’t know why some NHL players are so happy to be victims of this kind of garbage. A guy that is 6’3” like Matthews or the Sedin brother has the physical tools to make sure Marchand’s on the IR. Yet he’s the one taking random abuse.

That's just the thing. You cannot get used to being abused.

If they do it it's ok. Once you do it it's a penalty or suspension! Do you see the problem here or do we have to continue in the delusion?

The sucker punch got the Ron Maclean "Captain Material" Seal of Approval, though...

So disappointed in Ron McLean. Used to think he was at least objective watching him all these years with Cherry, but the guy has become a mild, passive aggressive Leaf hater too, it seems.

I think it was a quote attributed to Ron Francis by Jeff O'Neill, but essentially even the most gentlemanly of players needs to snap one or twice every once in a while to keep opponents honest and create more space for themselves. If the Bruins want to play prison rules, I think the Leafs young guns need to learn to accidentally on purpose get that stick up next time someone comes for a head shot.

The reason why the Bruins get so many injuries every year is because they play dirty and they their comeuppance.

I'm looking forward to Columbus laying a beating on Boston as well as John Tortorella crying to the high heavens about the Boston Bruins.

History has shown when Leafs players are physical against the Bruins it results in back to back suspensions for Nazem Kadri.

You can't really do that kind of thing in front of a ref in the open as a retaliatory hit.

It's more like finish your hits, but put an extra bit of hate on it, or when someone comes in for a check, make sure you get your stick way up accidentally. That's every other play in the playoffs.

Yet from the video Sportsnet posted on YouTube it looks like the ref saw Chara's punch and did nothing about it in terms of a penalty.

It's just a sneaky sucker punch, something our Pat Quinn teams would have known a thing or two about.

you can actually see bergeron show concern for jt there

JT was probably dazed there for a moment...it looked like Chara laid a solid left hook ala MMA style to the side of Tavares' head or caught his jaw clean even. Such a cowardly punch by Chara...was pretty much a blindside punch as JT wasn't even facing him so didn't know it was coming. Is it a shocker he didn't even get a hearing...oh right, it's not Kadri. This league is such a bush league sometimes.

Are you referring to when Tie Domi gave that elbow to Scott Niedermayer in Game 4 of their 2001 Eastern Conference Semifinal series? I remember at the first the refs didn't see it and Scott Stevens was complaining so much that the refs and linesman got together and gave Domi a 10:00 minute penalty for deliberate injury, at least that's according to what I read on the penalty summary from that night.

When was the last time there was an illegal hit on a Leafs player that resulted in a player from another team getting suspended?

Don't under estimate the Jeremy Jacobs lobby.

The guy owns everything:

What DOES Jeremy Jacobs Actually Own?
