Would not have been opposed to Reider getting a PTO with the Caps. Think he can be a useful role player if he buys into his role.

Will always love DSP for his playoff run. He'll never have to buy a drink at any bar I'm in. But he crashed back to Earth pretty hard last season and failed to demonstrate to Caps management that he was willing to take the steps necessary to bring him back this year. Best of luck to DSP in Calgary, I hope he can get a spot.

Did Calgary got traumatized by colorado or something ?

Brings in Lucic, Rinaldo, DSP ?

Are they going to sign a silverback gorilla to a PTO next ?

This all look signs to Matthew Tkachuk, to not being there the start of training camp. We are just covering our asses with these PTO's.

LOL reading the comments from the Snowflake Committee Members on picking up Lucic and Renaldo. At least the Flames might offer an alternative to boring Euro hockey this season.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the Flames are considering these guys seriously. They need warm bodies for their split squad games. The Flames have graduated a lot of their prospects, so their pre-season lineup is pretty thin.

Why do the Alberta teams love to recycle their players between them so much? Chiasson, Lucic, Neal, Talbot, Smith, Russell, Granlund now Rieder.

At least in Granlund's case, he's completed the Western Canada circuit.

No he's not. He could be decent for a good team, maybe in the playoffs. Even then, how many more times can lightning strike for a 4th line guy? It's already happened twice. On any team below a top 10 one, he's at best a warm body.

This is nonsense

This is nonsense

Show your work. He's been in 4 organizations since being drafted 9 years ago. He's been traded for nothing a couple times, and waived a few times. A career high of 14g and 25pts. The 16-17 Devils, the 3rd worst team in the league, and the 3rd lowest scoring team in the league, didn't bring him back. The first time the Caps signed him was on a two-way deal, at the age of 25. Despite his heroics for the Caps in 2018, they still ended up waiving him less than a calendar year later.

He's not a player that would help just any team. Some teams, in the right spot, sure, he might help. On a bad team, he's essentially useless. A guy you would sign to give your prospects another year to develop properly. So maybe not completely useless. You most likely couldn't even trade him at the deadline for any value. He's been dealt for Jiri Sekac, and Stephane Matteau's kid. He just turned 27, was tied for 4th on the team in playoff goals for a Cup champ, and he's on a PTO. That does not scream value.

Anyone know the record for most consecutive shots without a goal?

And not in just one season, but spanning multiple seasons?

Reider is a good guy to give a PTO to. He was so snake bitten last year for Edmonton and then idiot Bob Nicholson tosses him under the bus. He's not a bad player, he just couldn't buy a goal last year for a team that needed him to score a few at least.

feel bad for Smith-Pelly. He should have signed a bigger/better contract last year after his strong playoffs instead of giving Caps a deal and trying to go for another cup. Now he may not even get a contract next year.

That's why players should always put money first, above winning.

I don’t, you can’t be invisible 75% your games dressed and expect not to be replaced by someone who is more hungry for it. He doesn’t score, rarely lays the body, and never fights. What does he bring to the table exactly that someone in the A can bring.

Never seen so much movement in one off season between the two clubs
Yeah, it is odd. Usually we get the occasional Russell or Versteeg who is an AB kid and wants to stay close to home. Even more rare we get the BoA trade (Smid, Staios, Lucic Neal). Granlund clearly went to Edmonton because he sees an opportunity to potentially play top 9, so I think it is just a coincidence. Davidson may be a case of of the AB kid thing and hoping to fill that role Prout had last season. but the goaltenders is a new wrinkle, especially with neither being Albertan. Rieder, I think is more to do with his ties to Treliving from when they were both in the Coyotes organization
