Hope it doesnt involve us but Vancouver is probably also working on something as they just took on more cap when already being over. Always seems to be speculation or just best guess but people seem to like Peeke to Vancouver. Problem is they keep suggesting Garland our way
I wonder if we could get Casey DeSmith from them?

I’ll do Peeke for Garland if they throw in their first round pick.

We could then turn around and try to trade garland ourselves with heavy retention.

2 years retention after this year when our RFAs are coming up and we should be entering the next phase of the retool/competing cycle? Im not sure its worth it honestly. Maybe if Vancouver retains some also but that defeats the purpose for them

It would make more sense for us to do pass through retention on Tyler Myers. $6m cap hit, only $1m in money owed. Final year of the deal. We have $5m in cap space.

The Garland retention would be on our books for multiple years and be very expensive in real money.

It's funny he mentions Peeke but not Boqvist and Bean. None are waiver exempt, this is just Porty mistakenly thinking that Peeke was on the bubble and the other two locks.
How do you know it was a mistake? maybe it was a consideration? I'm not sure I've heard anything positive about all 3 of them this preseason. Of course I'd give Bean the benefit of the doubt because his injury last year.

We have $5m in cap space.

I am wondering what’s going on with Patrick Kane. I think teams want to see him play after hip surgery. Offer him $4 million and the chance to have input where we trade him (about a month before the deadline). Our young forwards could learn from him. We could put him on a line with Fantilli. If he looks good he will bring a nice return 50% retained.

I wouldn't be averse to covering half his contract for an asset, but actually having him in the lineup gives us a weird lineup I think. Not sure I'd want him.

Why wouldn't he just sign with a team that is for sure going to make the playoffs?

Kane would be great but seriously doubt he'd sign here.

Not a fan at this point of his career. PP specialist and lazy defensively. Don't think he'd add anything to the team

No cap space. Is he going to sign for league minimum with no guarantee a team will make the playoffs (who knows who will get a season ending injury on a good team)? He could sign with a team like the Jackets for a few million and then be promised a trade to a serious contender.

Why sign at all then? Is it worth the few extra million to play on a team and get traded mid season? I'm sure he has plenty of money and if he does decide to come back it'll be to win a Cup. There's teams out there that could move cap space and will definitely make the playoffs.

Sillinger looked alright at wing, I don't feel awful about him being up to start, would like to see if he can carve out a role. Gudbranson over Blankenburg is a tough pill to swallow as I think Blankenburg can hang next to Werenski. Severson is the only RD I currently prefer over Blankenburg.
