DuClair's agent, Philippe Lecavalier, had DuClair speak to his brother Vinnie on a speaker phone when considering the offer from the BlueJacket's.
Vinnie had met DuClair a few times so they already knew each other
Vinnie, who Tortorello had stripped the C from him in 2001 before winning the cup together in 2005.........told DuClair the following:
“Vinny laid it out for us,” Philippe Lecavalier said. “He thought John would be the best coach in the NHL right now to help Anthony’s game, help him become the best player possible.
Philippe Lecavalier said DuClair turned down more money to sign with the Jackets.
The term and the money, Philippe Lecavalier said, were secondary in the process.
