Desharnais, Gilbert, Prust, Markov, Moen and Bourque would all have been way better options than one of the best goal scorers in the league over the last 3 seasons.

Moen maybe. Bourque shows up in the playoffs, so there's that.

All the others are on good contracts. Baffles me that people think 3 more years of Markov is a bad contract.

Didn't say any of them were bad. But they're all (very easily) arguably worse than Pacioretty's.

Be positive. They couldn't find a really bad contract so they picked a name out of a hat. I like to think of the article as a veil criticism of Phaneuf.
