What argument would the NHL have against starting the season a month earlier?

In the past, it’s been said a lot US owners don’t even like October home dates, as it’s one of their worst months.

I mean, the list of things great about hockey basically begins and ends with the playoffs and even then these were some of the most forgettable playoffs in recent memory.

I think the fact the finals were spread so far apart didn't help, it's harder to sustain interest when they had the down times that they did.
