What's everyone's thoughts on the linesman keeping the puck in the zone? Thought linesman are supposed to be outside of the line while the play is still in the zone?

I did not see the full play, and can't find a replay that shows it, so I will just offer a thought on how that can happen.

If the play prior was an entry into the zone the linesman will be inside the line (so as to not prevent the puck from getting in), depending on the play the liney will often have to slide down several feet to stay out of the play and then find the right time to get back to the proper position, in the mean time the back linesman will cover the blue line for him. It sucks but it happens.

Again, I did not see the play so I have no idea if that is what occurred here or not, but the only other reason the linesman would be in that area is if it was after a and end-zone face-off and he was trying to get back, but that would be more obvious to anyone watching.

Better luck in Game 2 you bunch of jerks ; )

Just how many hats you have for letters in Czech? Do they actually make a difference when you read? (I wouldn't be surprised if they did.)

We have only the umlaut for "further back" vowels and the little halo for the occasional Swedish tourist confusing A with their two O's. (Last year we had more tourists from China than Sweden. Believe that. It's incredible in bottom level city view. I asked one of them and she said, "the brochure said you can go out when it's raining". Took me a while to understand raindrops can be toxic in less progressive places. Overall the Chinese are very nice, but one wonders.)

All the odd stuff comes from having ˇ and ´.

Č = “tsch” in “German”
Ď = (also pronounced in Dě and Di) is like when you say second “t” in “Tatiana” but with “D”
Ě = that’s complicated
Ň = (also in Ně, Mě, Mně and Ni) like in “new” in English
Pě = “ě” becomes “je”
Ř = secret weapon against foreign spies. Closest thing is “rz” in Polish. Unpronouncable for 99% of non-Czechs and non-Slovaks
Š = German “sch”
Ť = like second “t” in Tatiana or first in Tuesday, if you pronounce it sofťy
Ž = same as Zh in Latin transcripts of Chinese names

Á,É,Í,Ó,Ú,Ů and Ý are just longer version of their regular counterparts.

Í is like “ee” in English meek, ú is like “oo” in English doom.

Difference between “ú” and “ů” is only in grammar, not in pronunciation.

Also “ts” and “ds” are pronounced the same way as Czech “c”, therefore like german “z” in zwei or Zahn.

I appreciate the insight. I didn't find a replay of the entire play either but my guess is you're on to something with how he was back tracking rather quickly to get back out of the zone. There's obviously some tinfoil hats being worn, and it's hard to dismiss it after the 2 calls against dougie, and the non-call on svech. However, I'd like to think it's not so corrupt that you would have a linesman blatantly keeping a puck in the zone to benefit one team over another.

So I waited until I calmed down from last night to venture to the mainboard. Here is my take-away:

1/3 posts - Canes were only going to get away with those chicken shit cheapshots before the refs finally cracked down....

1/3 posts - did the Canes really think they could play a physical game against the Boston Thanoses, I mean Bruins

1/3 posts - unintelligible; I guess something was lost between the conversion from Bawstin to southern accent; or maybe what they say about us dumb southerners not knowing nothing about no stickpuck is right

I can’t fathom how these dingleberries can continue to call the Dougie roughing penalty an elbow to the face. There’s replays, there’s GIFs, there’s still frames. His elbow doesn’t hit him in the head. At all.

Canes are going to be fine. I don't know if the Canes will win, but they certainly can win. They were able to do the same things they did to Washington/Isles for long stretches.

Reffing was ridiculous. McGinn elbowing the guy in the face, and the other guy getting 2 for an attempted facewash set the tone of stupidity that would last throughout the game. Good for the Bruins because their PP is better, but in terms of lousiness, it was pretty equal opportunity incomprehensible.

After sleeping on it - sobering up and collecting my thoughts here they are on the Canes gameplay from last night. I will only be addressing the Canes game play and not the officiating etc.

Pros:
- Aho looked much better than he has in a long time
- Svech looks good as the high forward on the PP
- The second period they dominated play
- They played with good grit to the game
- They brought good intensity initially after a slow start

Cons:
- Folded in the 3rd
- Took some bad penalties
- The PK
- The Defense f***ed up on transition more than usual
- Ferland was invisible after his penalty

Moving forward:
- They need to get a win on Sunday so they can come home even. Last change at home will be a huge advantage as they will be able to put Slavin and Pesce on the Bruins #1 line.
- They need to keep the forecheck up all game the Bruins are the slowest team so far this playoffs and hard fast consistent forecheck will make them pay.
- Rask is really f***ing good - they need to keep traffic in frontof the net put in the ugly goals and get under the skin of the Rat

Maybe that's what they want you to think. If they blatantly fix the game in broad daylight, nobody will believe that they could be so brazen.

Next game: ref picks up puck and throws it into the net, ejects goalie for protesting

The first three points in each resonated the most with me. After sleeping on it, what happened last night sucked, but it isn't the end of the world. They melted down in the 3rd after momentum was ripped away from them. It happens. Hell, it happened to us in Game 5 against Washington, and we then proceeded to rip off 6 straight.

The meltdown in the 3rd was a case of everything that could go wrong going wrong. Its highly unlikely that happens again, Brindy and Willy won't allow it. That said, before that 3rd, we were the better team over the course of the game, and we thoroughly dominated that 2nd period to the point where we had Boston on their heels looking to tap out. McKegg scores that shorty, and we probably win the game. That's encouraging. What's most encouraging was Aho. Man, that week off did him some good, because he was all over the place last night. Probably should have had at least one more goal if not for some heroics by Rask. Which, I know he had a good game, but we keep shooting like that, and he is going to break.

We stay disciplined and we play our game, I don't know if these guys can keep up with us. They won last night because they got to us mentally and got us off our edge. This isn't a team that allows that to happen often, so you have to feel good going forward. I don't care that McAvoy is coming back, his replacement played well last night, so its not like it was a huge weakness we exploited. We had the lead after 2 because we come after you in waves, feasting on straight line speed and odd man rushes. That isn't going to change.

I'm mad cause that was our game to lose and well we did exactly that. We had Boston on the ropes. We are normally a great 3rd period team, and then Staal takes that stupid penalty and boom things are tied. Now I thought the other penalties called were borderline and i've seen much worse go, but the officiating has been horrible all year/playoffs. The refs haven't gotten interference right all year, they sure as hell not going to start now. Bruins capitalized on their chances and we did not.

I'm sure they boys have learned from their mistakes in this game and will be ready to go Game 2. We were never going to sweep the Bruins, so we got our early lose out the way. The longer this series goes, the better it is for us. Boston will get tired as the series goes on. Just like Caps did. We just have to stop doing stupid crap and keep Bruins off the power play to ensure this series gets extended. Otherwise, it will be a short series in Bruins favor.

I am still questioning that Staal penalty a bit. I mean I know it was bad and I know he immediately reacted knowing he f***ed up.... But that looked like a hit from the side and not the back, and I thought that it needed to be from the back to be a boarding. That said, I don't disagree it should be a penalty, it was dangerous, but I'm not sure if it was by the letter of the law.

We had similar in WW2, a question where the obvious answer immediately made you friend or foe due to phonetics.

I'm still wrapping my head around the rest. I thought our language was difficult.

I hated the way we started that game. Sloppy with the puck, undisciplined physically. Boston fans aren't wrong that we were lucky not to get behind on PPs very early in the game, and even our first PPG was a lucky break not to be offsetting minors.

I hated the way we ended the game too. Sloppy with the puck, undisciplined physically. Boston fans aren't wrong that even if we don't get called on some weak borderline stuff, there was more than ample material for the refs to work with.

It wasn't a good road game. Canes aren't going to get by with one decent period out of three. They need to tighten up and play Game 2 with a controlled sense of purpose, or this is going to get out of hand quickly.

We're trying to not think about the game.

If the Staal penalty wasn't boarding it was still definitely roughing. 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Doesn't really matter either way.

It's the other calls after that which still have me absolutely livid. Those aren't just borderline they were flat out bad calls entirely against the way the rules are written. That needs to be the last game of the playoffs for both those pricks.

Still should have been a win despite that as we easily could have left them in the dust in the 2nd. A McGinn miss and Rask standing on his head are the difference between a 5-1 clown pounding and them just barely hanging on until the refs can take over the game.

Cant decide this morning what burns more the loss with shady refs or the ghost pepper cheddar leaving my body
The ghost of pepper cheddar burns more.

I wouldn't have eaten only cheese on a game day. Aye, Czech?

E: In the 16th century beer was rationed as a food and stockpiled in garrisons. One famous castle had north of a gallon allowed a man a day, with possibly consequences.

Regular season + playoffs

40-26-5

edit: which is to say we're 13-7-4 without him, with playoff OTLs counted as such.

.598 points % with him, .625 without.

What is it for playoffs?

0-2 when he plays the full game

0-3 when he plays and doesn't leave due to injury

1-3 when he plays at all
