With it being a back to back with the same team, I wonder if the opposing coaching staffs have a discussion basically agreeing to putting out a lot of green kids against a veteran team and then reversing it the next night so they can see where the kids are without it turning into a Traverse City like free-for-all with little structure on both sides of the puck? If we are the kids tonight, then tomorrow night bodes well for our guys as the vets will be out against a rookie heavy team.

That would make sense. Both sides want to know where their prospects are against real NHL competition, and neither side wants their vets getting roughed up by top players this early in the preseason. Seems like a good idea to coordinate the rosters and give each side a chance to see what they really want to see in these games.

I guess that's more a happy accidental side product of the thing that the home team brings in the big names for the home audience while visitors play their etc. players.

I watched Min @ Wpg yesterday. Wpg had house-filler names, Min not so much. It's not accident that the rosters are tilted for home team.

But what you say makes sense so it may also be an intentional plus.

Woof. I get we want to see certain people early so we can move on and dial it in as we go, but if we never touch the puck it’s going to be difficult to see anything of value.

Our staff is probably annoyed about their lineup, but they probably have very few young guys actually vying for spots. Especially compared to us. Preseason for them is actually about getting the real team in shape vs us figuring out who’s on the real team.

Essentially we're a sparring partner for them. Gonna get worked.

We’re all probably about to call it quits on Mrazek after he gets wrecked tonight. When in all reality we just iced a 70% AHL players, 20% ECHL players, & 10% NHL players.

And other than Svech (who is totally unproven), our best NHLrs tonight are a middle six winger (McGinn) and our #6 and #7 D. Ouch.

I'm guessing this is our last look at Poturalski, Bishop and Wesley, who seem like beyond-long-shots to make the roster this season and are at the end of their contracts. Poturalski turns 25 this year so it seems highly unlikely to me that we see him in a Canes uniform again. The other guys could get extended and come back next year, but I don't see why we wouldn't replace them with draftees.

Bean, McKeown, Renouf, Cajkovsky are auditioning for a chance to sit in the press box as the #7 guy when a Cane gets injured. My guess is they want Bean and McKeown playing minutes in Charlotte regardless of how this pans out. So it's kind of between Renouf and Cajkovsky to win the race for possible future free nachos and conversation with Tripp. Perhaps it's telling that they held off on putting Fora in the lineup tonight... it seems like he'd get a look, so they may be viewing him as the front-runner and holding him off till tomorrow night.

Seems like the guys who are really on the hot seat are PDG, Saarela, Brown, McKegg, Geekie, Pu, and Wallmark. When injuries kick in, we will need at least one of those guys to step into a regular shift in Raleigh. They have a very real opportunity to make their cases during this camp, and in the cases of McKegg and Brown this is almost certainly their last real shot at the NHL.

And of course it will be interesting to see how Mrazek and Ned look in net.

Honestly, I think you underestimate Bishop just a hair here. The guy is more a traditional #4 type centerman than the others that are going to be auditioning for the role, aside from maybe Patrick Brown who's a similar in style, more veteran but not as skilled. He also has the skating that the team is going to be looking for and is solid in the dot. I'm not saying he's going to beat out Wallmark, McKegg, or Roy for the #4 spot, but I think he'll get a much longer look than he otherwise would have if Rask were healthy.

They have a lot of regulars in.

Alexander Volkov is playing? Look at Tampa Bay gooning it up with a ufc heavyweight on the roster.

I'm predicting that from one particular poster.
I have to admit I wanted Zadina at least as much or maybe even a little more than Svech. I said a couple of times I would’ve been ok with any of the three including Tkachuk. I didn’t see a big gap between all of them. They bring different things. To me what Zadina brings is what I think we needed most but it doesn’t matter. It was choosing between three wingers when we need a center anyways.

I wanted Provorov over Hanifin in the end but I still rooted for Hanifin and still don’t take the trade lightly. I really like Svech as a prospect and think he should be legit, and I’ll root for him like I did all our guys including Boychuk and Murphy. I’m just not convinced of what he is yet. I saw a clear identity with the other two, and I still don’t have it for this guy. I’m not sure what kind of player he’ll be as a pro. I’m sure the games will help me with that!

Not that you were referencing me, just couldn’t stop myself from throwing in two cents on the thought.

Always have thought Bishop had a shot as a role player. I have no problem with Bishop or Wallmark as our fourth, and I’d put Foegele for sure on the left side. I’d consider putting Gauthier on the right if he has a good camp. I’m not big on Martinook as anything beyond the 13th guy.

Oof. Fleury, McGinn, and TVR are the only full time NHLrs from last year's Canes squad vs. Girardi, Stralman, Johnson, Palat, Point, McDonagh, Coburn, Hedman, Kucherov, Stamkos and Valsilevskiy.

Poor Mrazek.

I'm sure the young forwards/D are going to enjoy going against those guys though. Probably a dream come true for some of them.
