Alright boys first game of the new season. Get ready to be setup for disappointment. Looks like Mrazek and Ned will split the game. and a very youngin heavy lineup. Also look like Michael Smith says we may get a stream for this one he will know more in the morning. Lines wont be up till the morning skate.

Anyways just win or whatever who cares.

Lines:

Zykov-Wallmark-Svechnikov
McGinn-Martinook-Di Giuseppe
Saarela-Bishop-Pu
Geekie-McKegg-Brown

Bean-McKeown
Fleury-van Riemsdyk
Cajkovsky-Renouf

Mrazek
Nedeljkovic

I'm guessing this is our last look at Poturalski, Bishop and Wesley, who seem like beyond-long-shots to make the roster this season and are at the end of their contracts. Poturalski turns 25 this year so it seems highly unlikely to me that we see him in a Canes uniform again. The other guys could get extended and come back next year, but I don't see why we wouldn't replace them with draftees.

Bean, McKeown, Renouf, Cajkovsky are auditioning for a chance to sit in the press box as the #7 guy when a Cane gets injured. My guess is they want Bean and McKeown playing minutes in Charlotte regardless of how this pans out. So it's kind of between Renouf and Cajkovsky to win the race for possible future free nachos and conversation with Tripp. Perhaps it's telling that they held off on putting Fora in the lineup tonight... it seems like he'd get a look, so they may be viewing him as the front-runner and holding him off till tomorrow night.

Seems like the guys who are really on the hot seat are PDG, Saarela, Brown, McKegg, Geekie, Pu, and Wallmark. When injuries kick in, we will need at least one of those guys to step into a regular shift in Raleigh. They have a very real opportunity to make their cases during this camp, and in the cases of McKegg and Brown this is almost certainly their last real shot at the NHL.

And of course it will be interesting to see how Mrazek and Ned look in net.

They have a lot of regulars in.

With it being a back to back with the same team, I wonder if the opposing coaching staffs have a discussion basically agreeing to putting out a lot of green kids against a veteran team and then reversing it the next night so they can see where the kids are without it turning into a Traverse City like free-for-all with little structure on both sides of the puck? If we are the kids tonight, then tomorrow night bodes well for our guys as the vets will be out against a rookie heavy team.

Oof. Fleury, McGinn, and TVR are the only full time NHLrs from last year's Canes squad vs. Girardi, Stralman, Johnson, Palat, Point, McDonagh, Coburn, Hedman, Kucherov, Stamkos and Valsilevskiy.

Poor Mrazek.

I'm sure the young forwards/D are going to enjoy going against those guys though. Probably a dream come true for some of them.

I do like Zykov-Wallmark-Svechnikov. Could have been a good NHL line to start with Rask there. Maybe Wallmark surprises, he produced shit-all in his NHL time but his underlying metrics weren't bad.

Kind of surprised they're putting Hedman, Kucherov, Stamkos out there. Risk of injury doesn't seem worth it at all.

Seems like it is just a trade off. Tampa plays their NHLers at their home barn, Canes play extras. Tomorrow at the PNC arena the Canes will field their NHL team (along with Svech+) while Tampa will play their camp fodder. Give the home fans a good show while making the most of a back-to-back. Allows each team to evaluate their lesser talent against actual NHLers. I approve.
