Overall this was highly entertaining as a fan to follow. Id love if Habs sent another offer sheet this week to another top player. We'll see
You have Miller and Point. Neither Tampa or Toronto will likely blink at matching front-loaded, bonus heavy contracts (particularly the Leafs), and it looks like after their recent trades Toronto has indeed carved out enough cap space to overpay Marner if needs be. Not sure about the Lightning with Point though.

I think the big issue is that the Habs are likely having to tender an offer that is over that $10.5 million cap hit and be willing to eat losing four 1sts as compensation to make either Toronto or Tampa seriously consider not marching.

wtv it was worth a try, very low chances but no risk involved either and the casual fans ate it up. But the same casual fans are the ones that would of bashed him for doing nothing.
not like MB left better deals on the table to OS aho so he has/had nothing to lose.

At the busiest time of year for GMs, you honestly believe a GM would only have one deal he's working on at a time?

Summer just started. There will be more announcements. One OS attempt is meaningless esp. when they are mostly doomed to fail.

I still find it hilarious how Aho pretty much signed that offer sheet in 5 minutes. Shows how much the Canes were low balling him. Not a fan of Bergevin but still think this was a smart move that screwed the negotiation plans of the Canes. Enjoy the the 21M$ Aho!

I find it hilarious that Aho and his agent clowned an original 6 franchise and fan base into ACTUALLY thinking he ever had any intention of playing there. I laughed my nether regions off watching post-after-post and tweet-after-tweet with Montreal’s new line combinations and giddiness over something EVERY Cane fan knew was never going to be. But enjoy your hilarity. It’s even funnier from our side!

Canes got their franchise C for 5 years instead of 8, he's 100% gone in 5 years (Huge negative for Canes) to FA in what is likely going to be a another huge payday. Well played by Aho.

In one breath you argue linear development, in the other you argue ability to stay healthy. Which is it? your argue point production, but Matthews has way better point production, and way WAY better goal production, but in the next, you say it's due to ability to stay healthy.

I mean, we all know the better player is Matthews by a wide margin. Yes, he's had some injuries. Lots of players have had a few years of tough injuries and gone on to long healthy, good careers. It happens. But that's your argument, because you know based on the numbers, Matthews is a better player. And it's not particularly close.

But then you get all wishy washy and argue that it's because Aho suddenly has one year with better raw numbers (all the while not really coming close in terms of production per game).
Linear development and durabyafe not the same issue so arguing them as separate points is valid.

Im sure the only reason some people wouldn’t give Aho his due in this comparison is the pre draft pedigree and hype a #1 overall gets. It’s the same reason that Marner would have to do 10x more, for 10X longer to get 1/10th of the accolades so easily just handed to Matthews.

If Matthews, with similar production and durability over the past few years was some random late 1st rounder or something like that, most people would have less of an issue that Aho has passed him in value with production, durability and contact all being factors.

Also nobody signs an offer sheet to a team they don't want to play for, and nobody signs an offer sheet without knowing it could be matched.

We can stop the silly idea he doesn't like Carolina or Montreal. He liked both just fine and wanted to get paid.

I think most outside fans know this. Let the two fanbases go at it for a while.

So what is it? Was the offer sheet a joke that so trivial Canes management was dancing with joy or did Dundon just show he has brass balls and drop fat stacks to match it?

Matching it wasn't brass balls. Dundon was going to do that regardless because it's common sense.

The brass balls part was him seeing Montreal try to catch him with his pants down financially, and making a point of rubbing their nose in that mistake. He deliberately made Bergevin look like an idiot, and Bergevin absolutely deserved it for trying to stick it to Dundon in the first place.

The organization called a press conference to triple-underscore that they love Aho, but he's 100% gone at the end of this deal.

Sure, sounds like good info.

nah, if a mid-first round pick had scored 110 goals in 220 games, and gone over point per game, everyone here would be creaming their panties over him, even with missing FOURTEEN whole games last year, and 20 the year before.

Maybe the offer-sheet was an attempt at revenge on Rick Dudley. Or maybe he doesn't like Dundon's track suits.
