Philli couldn't give the guy away for free 2 years ago and AZ was magically going to get a 1st rounder for him? Was that seriously someone's expectations here?

that's fair. BA either doesn't purposely want Carolina's 3rd in this years draft (it will be late) and/or he just wants to spread these suckers out over time. Either way he's not subscribing to the time value of money philosophy that you and I have been raised with.I'll be honest, I wanted the 3rd to be this year's draft and not three years from now.
The comparative value is what annoys me, not the round.

How do you come to this assessment? Curious.this rebuild is stringing out 2 years longer than it should have or could have been.
Let's see how the Cane's utilize him. It was a hell of a deal for Carolina. A pick in the 80's range might be worth a roll of toilet paper.Ghost doesn't prevent zone entries or hit. He's a PP specialist and a fairly expensive one at that, considering the Coyotes could take zero cap back. You are overvaluing this player and what he means to playoff teams.
I must admit I don’t contribute here all that often but I have mad lurking skills. The way everyone is running around in circles, is surprising to me. Like haven’t we been eating cash for picks for a couple years now. Sucks we couldn’t do it with our prized asset but I’m very happy where the organizations at currently. The darker days are not lost on me. There’s actually something to be excited about here. The returns on this deadline are like a B but the overall picture is great!Philli couldn't give the guy away for free 2 years ago and AZ was magically going to get a 1st rounder for him? A couple of years? Funny man. What good is cap room when you can't use it? At least we will have young hungry players to watch. I wonder if we get more than a 1st. for Keller. Might get lucky and get a 1st. and a couple of 2nds. Maybe if we add a certain pizza franchise will entice someone.AND the 1st round pick we got in the OEL deal might be the best player on the roster by the end of '23. If not, certainly top 3 or 4. Has Armstrong been perfect? Of course not but I think he's done a very good job setting the organization up to build a winner through the draft which is exactly what he said he wanted to do. In a couple years they will have a roster full of young talent and the cap room to add vets to put them over the top with what looks like the right coach to keep them playing winning hockey. I just hope it's here in AZ.
Ghost did MUCH better than I thought. Happy for him and where he landed. I'm ok we only got a 3rd. He has paid his dues. More of a favor to Ghost.Philli couldn't give the guy away for free 2 years ago and AZ was magically going to get a 1st rounder for him? Was that seriously someone's expectations here?
I just noticed it was a 3rd. in 2026. That could be worth a little more than a roll of toilet paper, but better than this year, god willing.Yeah, my brain gets it, but my gut still says that if he was going '26 he could have gotten a 2nd. Ah well.

My thinking was that Caroline won't be as good then.Smarter/more in-touch people with regards to the next five drafts will have to chime in and clarify value. I only know that everyone thinks this year is an amazing draft, that next year could be even better, and beyond that I know absolutely nothing.
That's true. We have been paying cash for assets for a couple seasons now. Probably shouldn't be surprised there was a limit on how much BA would allow and for how long he'd agree to do it. I'll just be glad he was able and willing to do it at all with the state of the team right now.I must admit I don’t contribute here all that often but I have mad lurking skills. Time flies friend. Next thing you know we will be trading for a ghost with that 3rd and everyone will be saying how did they get him for that and we got fleeced blah blah… It’s only because they’re a joke of a franchise! We all know how it goes. We were destined to lose the deadline no matter what.I just noticed it was a 3rd. in 2026. He has to do it again this year. We will need players to hit the cap floor. Not sure what the cap floor is though. It won't be as drastic as last year that's for sure. That's true. Post of the thread, thus far…. Thank you!We can re-sign Ghost if we want. We received a 2nd,3rd, 7th for Ghost and we lost the trade? He was a free asset! Dudas and Lipkin are already great prospects in and of themselves. We needed to retain to get a better pick. That’s it. Instead of a 2nd we got a 3rd.
Van can’t give away Garland for free these days (or OEL for that matter)

Depends on which prior rebuild he wants to start from. How do you come to this assessment? Curious.
Edit: What's the date the rebuild should be done by?
Being a Floridian...How on earth did I never hear his dad was Basque French and played jai alai?Nice article if you can read it….

I hope he comes back next year. (Or is he signed for another year…I forget. Haha)Well, glad Ghost is making the most of his opportunity in Carolina 1+1 already today. Seems like a great fit for them and should help propel their offense even further and with that forecheck Carolina has, wow, they should be extremely dangerous in the playoffs.
