The played against the Sens. Against most teams this would have been a big L.
They played much worse against the Bruins and lost by 1 on a goal scored with 45 seconds left. You’re just wrong. Easily could’ve been a 4 or 5-2 win tonight. Murray played well.

It's not hate, hes just gotten slower and slower over the years. We all love him, but he's not the player he once was and it's detrimental to the rest of the team. We need to start looking for his replacement and move him to #3C.

He wins a board battle and slips a perfect pass thru the defenseman's skates for an Ov goal. Then he steals the puck for a breakaway and a brilliant goal. He has 8pts in 9 gamse after no training and camp or preseason when everyone else is at full speed. I get it. Play McMichael at 2c and drop Backstrom to playing with the scrub wingers. RME

@txpd this is why Ovechkin defies convention when we talk about putting him in places that leave him covered. He’s a mule even with 2-3 guys on him on goal 1 and then sneaky on goal 2

Thats not the point. He would be better at the bumper than anyone. You do 2 things you shouldnt do if you make that change.

1. you are shooting pucks at him.
2. you are taking a player with a shot that can score from 40ft + and putting him in a spot were umpteen guys can score from.

Great to see Cap One rocking again in the 3rd after over a month of crappy performances.

Ovi and Backy to the rescue - formula never gets old!!

Feel embarrassed to ask this, but has Fever been on the ice in OT yet this season? He immediately changed the tone of the OT play. This is an example of why 5x5 and PP success doesn’t necessarily translate to OT success in terms of personnel. More Fever and less Carlson please.

Carlson does not belong on the PP or OT.

Didn’t say the bumper, though, just anything that isn’t turret standard. You don’t want him where people can cover him and I think he can move traffic

I don't like it either. He is going to get the shit cross-checked out of him - way too big a chance of an injury.

Can we take a moment to appreciate that even at age 36 Ovechkin is moving himself into the lead for his 4th Hart trophy? The man is a god damn machine. Yes, it's taking a bit of luck that the Oilers are falling away from a playoff spot and have the two other MVP candidates. But even still, Ovie could be tied for the 3rd most MVP awards all time, and doing so at ***thirty-six***.

What a treasure to have a player that just willpowers his way to team success.

I think everyday how great it is to have such a classy player like Ovy. Many years I was bitter because we couldn't get the franchise guy like Gretzky, Yzerman, etc. If not for the lockout BS and COVID we would be looking at 800 goals this year or more.

I don’t always watch the postgame interviews, but it’s worth checking out Laviolette’s after the Sens game. He was more animated and forthcoming than usual, and you can glean a bit about his overall coaching philosophy, incl. TOI distribution. Kind of an impressive set of answers, I thought. I liked the way he put the current struggles in perspective. He talked about the value of adversity. He also had a different perspective about the low shot totals for both teams in first period and what it meant. He said first period was just a very fast, tight-checking game, with everything being contested hard. He said sometimes that’s how a game develops and the key was patience and just sticking with it, esp. when the temptation is to begin taking chances or cutting corners or just to get frustrated. Anyway, good press conference.

If they continue their streak of not losing 2 consecutive RS games this team will be in the PO.
But in PO it will be very difficult. Hockey it's not basketball when you can win championships with 1 player on your team.

BTW Imagine if Ovi were a basketball player. Would have a lot of rings.

Winning a game without your top three defensemen is not easy. Nice work.

As for Nicky, the hands and vision look like they’re back but hopefully his skating continues to improve. He’s not winning any fastest skater competitions any time soon. Still, good to see him doing Nicky things again.
