I wish it were that simple. Turns out the owner is just an out of touch trust fund baby that doesnt get the same respect as the other teams oligarchs
It’s frightening that we can kinda plainly see that we will never win the Stanley Cup as long as this owner refuses to sacrifice a few years of planned playoff revenue.

Apologies if this has been posted earlier. I was just curious to see how he played last year, and found this report. Looks like a really good signing. Was the best 4th liner on a good Bruins team, and important on their PK.

Just scroll down a bit to find Lazar:-
Bruins' 2021-22 Player Grades: Right Wings
Especially since they pegged him at $2M / year, our deal looks even better.

Normally you kind of shrug your shoulders when your favorite NHL team revamps the bottom-six forwards on its roster. Because it's usually the case of exchanging 'tweedledum' for 'tweedledee' .

But you'd have to say that with the addition of guys like Lazar, Joshua and potentially Mikhayev and Kuzmenko, the Canucks have completely overturned the bottom of the roster. And if the latter two guys end playing further up the lineup, then it means potential fourth line duty for Hoglander and Pearson.

At the very least, a lot more scoring and a lot more offensive finesse from the Canucks third and fourth lines.

im not technical or anything i just think he could develop into a solid player
I hope you’re right! I don’t really care how we do cause I know it’s not a Cup year, but I cheer for the add of more entertaining and effective players on my tv.

With him and Mikheyev being good on the PK for good teams, our PK should improve. How many points would it have been if we had just a league average PK for the whole season?

tell me about it

Do you feel slightly confused about how this board is celebrating like Mardi Gras from signing a 4th line player? Note how something insignificant is somehow bringing the fans the degree of elation that's quite uncharacteristic of similar moves?

It's all because of this lovely peach of a (former) GM of ours:
jim-benning-canucks-gm.png

Think about the primary duties of a GM, you know, from what you know as a fan: trades, contract negotiation, signing UFA, drafting, talk to the media sometimes, communicate with ownership, talent evaluation, managing team assets, hire the right team to help you with your job. Yeah that's about the gist of it.

This guy, who was somehow able to maintain his position as our GM, failed at all of his duties. No that's not just "oh we're just say'n that's all". No, I mean this man failed at literally everything. It's almost a mythical power of sort, that allows him to fail in such thorough and complete fashion. You'll probably think you're going insane just looking at what this guy did in the near-decade tenure.

- Trades: dreadful, routinely overpays for trades and consistently overestimate players he set his eyes on, was recognized as a fat pigeon by other GMs (probbaly).
- Contract: dreadful, signed countless horrendous contracts and crippled our cap for years to come. We have little to know cap flexibility to fix our pitiful defense.
- UFA, dreadful, think about Eriksson...our lovely GM thought it was a great idea to give him 6X6...
- Drafting, borderline tolerable, some would argue this is the least shitty part of his job, which might be somewhat valid, until you realized that he used 5th on OJ, and 6th on JV...all while fans from this board, who wanted Nylander/Ehlers/Tkachuk, watched in horror and screaming into a pile of pillows.
- Talk to the media, or anyone, dreadful, he fumbles his sentences, slur his words, can't seem to get his thoughts straight, repeats himself a lot and with a weak voice, he projects the very opposite of confidence.
- Communicate with ownership, uncertain, if him talking to the media is of any indication I'd imagine his communication with Aquaman isn't any better.
- Talent evaluation, dreadful, he thought Sbisa was worth a shit, he thought Eriksson is worth 6 mil, and he thought Forsling should be tossed in exchange for Clendening...the list goes on and on.
- Managing team assets, dreadful, we traded in Toffoli then led him walk, we have a solid defenseman in Tanve and he led him walk, Markstrom was a solid goalie, and he led him walk. He thought draft picks were the works of the devils and threw them in shit trades. And he kept bringing in these reclamation project players who almost always failed.
- Hire the right man for the job, eh...he f***ing worked with John Weisbrod...

Didn't meant to let this post run for so long, but it did.

I think he would easily taken the spot as the worst Orca GM in history, and will have a VERY promising shot at the worst NHL GM in the history of this sport.

EDIT: this only took me five minutes, with no need to use Google to search anything. HFers with FAR brighter minds than mine had composed much more comprehensive list of ALL the stupid shit this man had done. If a lazy numbskull like me could jury rig a post like this, how much worse do you think the actual list will look?

i guess i should get used to it quick
Welcome!

You did manage to dodge arguably the darkest and most incompetent eight years of this franchise's existence (and that's saying something), so hopefully you're joining just in time to enjoy the upside. But the damage will take a couple years to undo, so many on here are going to be understandably impatient to get on with it.

EDIT: Valkynax did a great summary, and think what it means when I say he left out A LOT, lol.

This is a very good point. Too often we focus on the offensive production of forwards to determine value. The horrible PK performance early in the season arguably cost them the year.
Good teams have balance. An elite PKer is as important as an elite PP specialist.
