The fact that management can be so brutally incompetent one season and so far so good competent the next season tells me just not to worry about who's name is in the GM role of this accursed team.

This contract makes Garland an incredibly valuable hockey asset.

Canucks franchise gets a W today.

I think you got your posters mixed up mate. I expended all those paragraphs saying how I'm optimistic on OEL. As for the trade I might be in the minority here but don't think its that bad. It's a gamble but I can respect it. So was the Miller trade after all which IIRC I was against at the time. I would love for both these gambles to work out.

With OEL, his mental health issues probably really affected his on ice play. I know what its like having a real funk in life so I can defintly see him bouncing back.

I'm very excited to see how both OEL and Garland do and I think Garland is a fantastic player who could definitely outperform this contract. As far as the current value I think this contract is fair.

That was 3 paragraphs are you happy? Want me to write 3 more?

EDIT: You know what thinking about this deal i think its more than fair I think its a good deal. His trajectory seems to be a high end 2nd liner and if he can over preform that or preform that consistently, when the cap goes up, the end of this contract can look excellent.
Don't feed the troll.

Good signing, too bad there haven't been more of them.

Notice that this is the first big contract he's signed where the guy has actually already produced and is under 30 at the end of it.

Also, while the 9OA is arguably decent value for garland, the rest of the deal doesn't make sense for the size and term of OEL.

Garland will likely be a point per game player, he's on an excellent trajectory, he's worth a first + 2nd just like JT Miller.

The other part of the trade? Roussel, Beagle, Eriksson for OEL? LOL, that's a solid yes 1000000000x.

I don't think 9OA for Garland is good value. Reinhart and Buch are both better and went for less.

I agree with you but at least there's a conversation to be had about it especially with the decent contract Benning signed him to.

The rest is just yuck IMO.

We get rid of Beagle, Eriksson and Roussel.

I believe it was mandatory for this to happen ASAP in order for the team to move forward.

Waiting another season for the contracts to expire isn't possible because of how badly they f***ed up the team's morale this past season.

They had to fix the situation and they did.

Three trash players gone just like that. Almost magical.

The more I read of Garland the happier I am with him. The kid really seems to be happy to be here and that can not be undervalued. We've had a lot of bad mojo lately here and he certainly will help in that department. Add in the fact he's a legit top 6 player who can finish I'm over the moon with him. We may have a lousy constructed D core but the top 6 looks as dangerous as ever. Should make for some interesting hockey just hope we can stop more chances against than last season. Hopefully the assistant coach Shaw comes as advertised and can help the defensive system.

Seeing a lot of this sentiment and it's reminding me of previous years' "Clark can fix any goalie" magic beans.

Honestly I think we have a top 5 forward group in the NHL..

The defence is probably the worst in the NHL...

Loosing Tanev and Stecher really hurts right now (potentially Edler as well).

Not magic beans but I get what your saying. Green just has a lousy system and shouldn't have been extended but Shaw is a defensive specialist and can't hurt. We bleed chances with Green and with how were constructed now we should be attacking not collapsing as others have said. Use your personnel's strength not force a square peg into a round hole mentality like Green seems to do.

The potential to be that good is absolutely there.

Which probably means ownership will f*** it up again in a few years.

Great contract and great offseason so far for the Canucks. Actually really looking forward to next season at this point.

There's some risk regarding whether he can continue trending up, but considering we bought his statistical prime years, and Jimbo didn't hand out a NMC like he always does, this is perfectly acceptable.

Of course, if Petterson gets offer sheeted for 10m/4y, we're going to forget about this win instantly.

Think it's fair to say this is the best top 9 winger depth we've had in franchise history: JT, Boeser, Garland, Hoglander, Pod, Pearson.

As someone that believes in building from the blueline up, and center out, I give this accomplishment two golf claps.

Yeah no. I’d easily take the time we had an Art Ross winner at the top and Torres/Higgins as our 9/10 best wingers. Or basically Bure over everyone you listed combined.

I will rephrase and say "potentially" the best top 9 winger depth we've ever had. Will wait to see how Garland and Pod fit in before officially annointing them.

Why was the second part of your post even necessary? Just comment on this signing and be done with it man.

Garland is crushing it in this market

This is refreshing to see. I’m really glad he’s not one of these new age little bitch NHL players who wants zero accountability while getting paid millions to play hockey. He instantly rose like 5 notches in my book after reading this.

Edit: huh thought for sure that would have been censored or I probably would have chosen a different word. Oh well my point stands. Welcome to Vancouver Garland!
