Another Xmas miracle from this enigmatic team. After a shaky first 10 minutes, they proved they can play good team defense; protect a 2-2 tie until late; and then pot a couple of win it.

But the question remains, if they can do it for one night, why can't they do it every game or at least more often?....now it's the Sharks in town for a winnable game after the break and then on to Winnipeg where they almost never win.....but who knows?

Got to feel good for Colin Delia......a journeyman NHL-AHL goalie who might have had the game of his life when the Canucks needed him most.

And for one game at least, the Canucks best players Horvat, Miller and Pettersson outplayed the Oilers dynamic duo of McDavid and Draisaitl. Pushes their record in the Pacific Division to 9-2. Winning a majority of those four-pointers is at least keeping within hailing distance of a playoff spot.

A Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all Canucks fans and posters on HF Boards!

I have a short memory but feels like it’s been forever since our goalie stole a game for us like Delia did tonight.

Big game from Bo bet management is having 2nd thoughts on pulling the plug on this season and selling high on expiring contracts
But you always wanna sell high…
It’s how you maximise profit. In this case we need picks to rebuild the prospects pool
It's a deep draft so hell ya.
Should be stockpiling picks in a deep draft if you aren’t competing for playoffs.

We can still have a playoff drive and be sellers at the deadline….. it would be the best of both worlds to be sellers at the deadline and still play meaningful games in March. There is no way we finish bottom 5.

Unless we throw a match on this pile of tires and move basically everybody we will finish 10th-16th

Boeser had two separate 2-on-1’s and he blasted absolute muffins right into the crest of goaltender.

Wild how far his shot has dropped in all categories, power, accuracy, release etc etc
This is the biggest drop in value in any player... And it was predicted and expected.
Needed to to get rid of him Two yrs ago when it was already 100% established he does nothing when he's not scoring, and he's completely useless when playing a few % ponts away from full health.

Whole league knows now... we are stuck with him, aren't we?

It’s crazy with how wildly inconsistent this team has been that if they won 2 or 3 games in that terrible first stretch, they’d be in a playoff spot with games in hand. Parity really has arrived in the NHL.

horvat has 38 goals in his last 53 games... just ridiculous

afaict, it’s 38 in the last 51 games

so ok least games to 40 goal stretches off the top of my head —

rota: feb 15 to dec 16, 1983 (55 games)

tanti: march 3, 1985 to jan 21, 1986 (63 games)

tanti again: dec 30, 1987 to nov 17, 1988 (59 games)

bure: feb 17 to nov 16, 1992 (41 games)

bure again: jan 5 to mar 28, 1994 (38 games)

mogilny: oct 12, 1995 to feb 1, 1996 (48 games)

bertuzzi: mar 17 to jan 30, 2003 (65 games)

naslund: mar 28, 2002 to jan 10, 2003 (50 games)

daniel: mar 9, 2010 to jan 14, 2011 (60 games)

horvat: feb 24 to last night (55 games)

so assuming bo scores in the next three games, he should beat darcy rota and get to 40 faster than anybody other than bure, mogilny, and naslund.

Are we not entertained? Ha, did I call it or what with Delia. It's almost like he's as good as Martin who has sucked for what seems like forever. Watch him sit until the 15th in classic Canuck "screw-the-backup" fashion while Martin continues to flail helplessly. Also Bo haters should note the erect middle finger that he delivered to all of you. Some captain, eh?It has dawned on me that these recent games, although often excruciating to watch, have been far more entertaining than thousands of the games I have watched this team play since its inception. I think the last week or two has been more fun than, say, watching the last two games of the 2011 final, certainly more fun than most of the 1970's and '80's. Yes really!

You need to keep reverse-cursing players, it seems to be working!

I agree, I didn't convey my sarcastic tone well after re-reading my post. I am wanting the team to shed players for picks & prospects but it seems after every mini win streak instead of forging ahead with the rebuild / retool on the fly / building brick by brick I get the sense this FO & Ownership think they can make it

I was wrong about Mikheyev, well not about the lack of cap space to sign him but he is worth his cap hit in a vacuum. A rare bright spot on this team of overpaid wingers.

You know, you can what you want about the oft-maligned Canucks front office, but I've been impressed by some of the guys they've brought in, in supporting roles up front.

You get used to the Canucks signing and overpaying for the likes of Schaller, Beagle, Roussel, Pearson and even Eriksson, who was a fourth liner when his career with the Canucks mercifully wound down.

But this current crop of players like Aman, Joshua, Studnicka, Lazar and even guys further up the lineup like Pederson and Kuzmenko are a major cut above the slugs the Canucks usually bring in.

They're a lot younger, faster and far more physical. And more importantly, they're all being paid at less than $1m a season.

Makes you realize that Canucks could have done far better job in the past of signing and acquiring useful guys at the bottom of the lineup if only they'd scouted the league better.

Mikheyev is an absolute beauty. One of the fastest skaters in the league, defensively conscious, and is an automatic 20 goal scorer. He will have a season where he scores 30+ more when the stars are aligned.

You know, that when this Canuck teams gets superlative goaltending , they're a handful for any team. Last night Delia gave the Canucks the kind of goaltending they were getting last year from Demko, when they went on their run under Boudreau.

Outshot 10-0 in the early going, I counted at least six for seven eye-ball-to eye ball chances that Delia closed the door on. When the score was 2-1, he made at least three 10-bell saves, including a breakaway. A goal there, and the game is probably out of reach for the Canucks.

So how knows? Maybe when Demko returns and if he recovers his form, this entry of the Canucks could go on a run again. They're probably going to need last year's 32-15 record down the stretch just to squeeze in.
