Interesting side note. At the end of the islanders broadcast, they showed a dejected Tavares all by his own self alone on the bench after everyone left, head in his hands looking like he was crying he was so pissed. Slowly got up and got off, they then show the line of players going down the hallway and hamonic lost his **** and broke a stick with an over the head swing on something as he walked past.

Not a happy locker room. Not that it should be after that.

When you go 4-5 on the pp you're supposed to win that game. They just played horribly 5 on 5.

Tlusty lol.

Anyone else hearing "We really suck!" from the crowd?

I heard it
It was "D-P sucks!"
The Islanders' power play, before tonight, was 0-22.

And before that it was second place, including a 6 for 7 stretch. I wouldn't be so down about the PK, Isles have some serious weapons on the PP including a coach with the mind for it in Doug Weight. After tonights game they are 4th.

Anybody else think it's funny (ironic? trolling?) that we're now leading a division against which we have not a single point (0-2-0 record) and have given up seven more goals that we've scored (2GF, 9GA)?

In fairness, those were the first two games of the season and we played about as bad as you can in that situation. I'm sure if we played Florida or Tampa Bay now the outcome would shift more to the scores as of late rather than blowouts. Not that you don't already know this, just saying you'll get these flukey stats when you have played outside the division for the majority of the season.

I would feel better after reading this post, except for the fact that our PK just flat out sucks. There's no sugar coating it.

How well can Timmy Brent play Defensive on the PK?

Seriously though, why not let Corvo have some PK Minutes. After letting the Isles go 4-4 on you, what the hell do you have to lose at this point?

I am so glad many more people are finally realizing just how good Alex Semin is.

Seriously though. I count myself among the many many people who had the guy wrong all along. His scoring ability is maybe the third best thing about him so far... and that's really saying something.

He'll come back to earth, blah blah blah. But for now, it's a real treat to see him in $7 million mode.

What a volatile GDT. It'd be nice if everyone didn't get so worked up about every single play.

Great win though. There seems to be something special about this team. Now top 5 in goals per game in the NHL, just ahead of Pittsburgh.

Also count me in for box seats at that 8-6 game.

Amen, This is why I typically avoid GDT's while the game is on. Hockey is a fast paced, physical, highly skilled game where you are going up against other fast, physical, highly skilled players. Errors, mistakes and even down right great plays by opposing team will happen throughout the course of every game.

The constant stream of :help: , :shakehead , WTF was "insert player" doing on that play, etc.....make the GDT's tough to read for me during the game.

I do enjoy reading people's assessment of the overall game, how certain players looked during the game, key observations, etc... in the GDT's though. Especially when I'm unable to catch all of the game on TV.

I actually like the :help:, :shakehead, WTF was "insert player" doing, etc., simply because when I can't watch the game, I know when we've screwed up badly and who's generally to blame for said screwup.

It's live play-by-play.

That's assuming there's no built-in bias...which as you know doesn't happen.

I haven't read through the entire GDT but there'd better be a whole lot of "WTF McBain" in the 3rd period because he was awful then. He has negative upper body strength compared to the rest of the NHL.

That's fine, and I have no problem if others enjoy it, I just don't. I don't at all see it as a representation of the game if I can't watch it. The problems I see are:

1) There are built in biases, so it's far from an accurate representation of 'who screwed up". LaRose can do no right for some. Staal is "lazy" for others. Semin can do no wrong as he's the shiny new toy, etc...

2) Watching on TV many times misses the "screw-up" leading to what you see on TV. We all see the defenseman who get's burned but not what's going on behind the play. As an example was Semin in the Boston game. Some on here were commenting how well he played based on what they saw on TV. Watching it live, you saw for the most part how tentative he was and how he wasn't even attacking at the blue line, not willing to engage. It didn't show up as a "screw-up" or "boneheaded" play, but he played poorly overall.

3) The board is generally overly negative. Bad plays are highlighted way more than when a guy is doing his job. It comes across as people like to complain more than they like to praise. I have no problem pointing out negatives as much as positives, it just goes overboard on GDTs.

Anyhow, I have no problem with people doing what they do in the GDTs, it's just not my cup of tea for the most part and I've just gotten to the point where I tend to avoid them during a game.

#3 is the only thing I have issue with. The NHL isn't kindergarten where you get a gold star for doing your job. No one is going to comment every time someone takes a hit to make a play, that's just unrealistic. Besides, that's what Tripp is for. The negative comments have to come from the GDT because the broadcast is sunshine and rainbows no matter what is going on.

That said, obviously if you don't want to deal with that nonsense, stealing clear is the best option. I like looking back through after I've done it because I can usually pinpoint which beer I was on at a particular post.

I can see that. IMO, it just goes a bit overboard. I don't want all sunshine and raindbows comments either, but would hope for a more balanced (good and bad) assessment. WFT and :shakehead and  don't add much.

And for all we say about the broadcast team, the majority of non-canes fans view Forslund and Tripp as two of the more un-biased than most (see main board thread).

I don't think they are overly biased at all, they are just generally positive about everything the Canes most of the time, which they should be for the local team.

GDT's have devolved and are getting quite boring. The majority of posts now seem to be predictable rants/facepalms about the go-to whipping boys no matter how lame in an effort to appear switched-on (OMG, LaRose iced the puck..he does that every game! :shakehead:help:) interspersed with hockey pool/NHL Xbox discussion filler.

But Larose DOES ice the puck like EVERY game, it's ridiculous!

There definitely is something special about this team. I was pretty confident after the second period that we'd at least get the game to OT. And this team seems to just play amazing every third period, although, I think the 3rd period is always the Canes best period.

With all these comeback wins, it's hard not to think back to 2005-2006 (especially with the canes at the top of the division and the caps at the bottom). I'm trying my best not to get my hopes too high.
