That Jeff Skinner trade seems worse and worse every day. Trading him made no sense whatsoever. Who cares if it's the last year of his deal? For the package they got they would have been better off waiting until the deadline to trade him or keeping him and seeing if he could help them make the playoffs then letting him walk on July 1st.

Brind'Amour and the Canes ran Skinner out of town under the guise of "culture change". Unfortunately it looks like they may have picked the wrong culture.

Imagine being able to pull off a draft day trade because you know exactly who the Canes are going to pick, or rather, not trading up to draft a defenseman because you know he'll fall to you.

Those quotes about not drafting d in the first round... Jikes. And ”defense can be bought”. That’s an owner completely out of touch with the league,

Say what you will about Melnyk but he wouldn't say something like this. That and the 'I can't be positive when I lose" in regards to having enough patience to let the team gel.

Very scary thing for Canes fans to hear. Yikes.

This is like when Oakland traded Khalil Mack and then John Gruden said they needed a pass rusher.

Trade Skinner, immediately need a sniper. Ok. Did this not go through your head before the trade? Getting assets for your best players with expiring contracts is one thing, but you can't do it if also you expect to be good simultaneously. This is exactly why the Jackets should hold on to Panarin until the offseason.

And Lindholm has 16 goals.

On the other hand Ferland has 11, and he is the best scorer in the Hurricanes.

And the GM said they needed a sniper.

The canes have a sniper.. they drafted him 2nd overall in the summer.... Get him the hell off the 4th line........

Which 4th line? There are 3 of them. Svechnikov can play with Wallmark-Martinook or Rask-Di Giuseppe or Bishop-McGinn. So much AHL talent to choose from. The only thing for certain is that they can't play Svechnikov with Aho because Rod believes that might trigger the apocalypse or something.

The Skinner trade would’ve been fine if it had been at the deadline and/or had gotten one of Buffalo’s first rounders. It’s acceptable to say “we’re not going (or not going to be able) to sign him next year so let’s move him”, it’s not to say it HAS to happen over the summer and take a lesser package because of that.

I joke about Skinner too but he was likely gone no matter what. Getting no higher than a second rounder and Pu is the issue.

So the owner wants more offence, yet in the offseason trades away Skinner, Hanifin and Lindholm

Hanifin 3G 11A 14P +6
Hamilton 3G 7A 10P -10

Lindholm 16G 18A 34P
Ferland 11G 4A 15P

Skinner 21G 10A 31P
Nothing 0G 0A 0P

Good job bro. What a terrible offseason for the Canes, in regards to trades. Svech was obviously a good pick, but from what I gather is being buried.

Also for those who thought the Canes didn’t have a plan when they traded Skinner and Lindy - they actually came out and said between Ferland, Svech, Necas and Zykov they would have “more than enough” goal scoring. Ferland has been that, though he’s hurt and unsigned. Svech plays with the worst talent on an untalented team. Necas is in the minors and is now a RW probably instead of center. Zykov never got a second chance and was waived despite getting extended in the off season.

So it’s not like they didn’t even think of this when they traded those guys, it’s actually much worse. They had a ridiculous plan behind it.

People have to stop using Lindy. It’s a non factor. He wouldn’t be doing much of what he’s doing for the Canes. He would jstaal’s winger or the third line center. Ferland is doing much better than Lindy would’ve.

So, if they had the first overall this past year they would've passed on Dahlin and taken Svechnikov anyway? Or traded the pick to move down to #2?

Andrei's going to be a great player, but that would've been a move that would've haunted them for a couple of decades.

Lindholm while I miss him very much would not have scored half the goals he’s scored for the Canes so far. Take him away from those other two and he goes right back to maybe a mild 5% increase over last year. He’s no sniper for the Canes, he’s a high end compliment to other scorers.

...then play Lindholm with the actual talent on the Canes roster? Instead of forcing him to be a grinder beside stone hands Staal, would have been worth a look. Same with Skinner, and so far Svech.

Bury these guys with AHLers because of reasons, then watch them explode on other teams when they actually play higher in the lineup. It's insane

Waddell should be fired for the Skinner trade alone.....
They should have kept him and make their move at the deadline.

Waddell should have been fired for the Hamilton trade...and for insisting we hire Rick Dudley away from Montreal where his duties were primarily pro scouting and mentoring Bergevin...for a team whose roster-building prowess could generously be called "disastrous at-best."
