As a habs fan this is good news. The last thing they need to do is extend an inconsistent winger on the wrong side of 30 for 7 or 8 years at 7.5-8M AAV.

Trade him and get it over with. Take what you can get.

Look at Pacioretty's point totals for the six years prior to this last one. The guy is a model of consistency.

I think MTL would be wise to trade him at the deadline. He would be a hell of a pickup for a playoff run, and he's just a tad too old for teams to want to acquire him with a 8yr deal in mind.

in other news water is wet, sky is blue.

This pretty much sums it up. We all knew Pacioretty was not in the long term plans and was on the block because Montreal is rebuilding, and in a rebuild you trade whatever late-20s and up players that aren't tied down to long deals. Expect Byron to be in the same boat.

When players are in that situation, they are not extended. Plain and simple.

This is not news, it doesn't effect his value. All GMs around the league know the what's going on with Pacioretty.

This franchise is in deep **** and I don't see much light the way things are going....hopefully Montreal and get descent value for Paci and become competitive again in a few years.

Agreed but if he gets hurt and just walks because no one wants him (because he’s injured) they’re screwed. Don’t accept an awful offer now, but if there a solid one, id take it now.

MB is taking a huge risk if he doesn't trade him before the season starts. He could very well perform like he normally does and up his value, but if he gets injured and we can't trade him, Bergevin probably lose his job.

So it's a win win situation for the Habs. Patches performs well and we get a good deal for him or he gets hurt and we lose him for nothing which leads to the firing of M.B. I'm game either way.

It should be a heck of a battle to see who worse this year: Ottawa or Montreal.

thing is when Montreal is out of the playoffs by a little margin, Montreal will start selling players and play youth and don't care about winning. On the other end Ottawa not having their 1st + unprotected, they will try to win the hardest they can!

This is the problem with becoming the captain of the Habs. They'll never let someone pass Beliveau for term as captain so if you become captain under the age of 30 you're not going to retire here.

Bergevin is absolutely horrible at his job. What a great, great franchise that has been reduced to bottom-feeder.
