Genuinely, what is the argument that Cowan is a better prospect than Wood, Yager, Simashev, Reinbacher, and others as some leafs fans have stated. It’s just silly.

Simashev, Reinbacher no. There's no reason for him to be above them.

However, there's absolutely an argument over guys like Yager, Barlow, Sale and Honzek.

Cowan set an OHL record for longest point streak since the 90s, he had 96 points in 54 games which is a better point per game than all of other chlers in the draft outside of Musty and Cristall. Second best point per game in the Ohl outside of Musty, and the a Red Tilson Finalist. I also think his floor is safer than the others, should carve out at minimum a hardworking grinder that can play up and down the lineup.

Best leafs prospect for forward position and it's not even close. I'm not going to assume anything yet but I believe he will make the NHL eventually.

Agree with this and I'm also not very high on Wood who to me seems like a worse version of Mantha, not in playing style but in terms of big guys who just don't translate like many thought they would.

Cowan is going to carve out a role in the middle 6 and be able to play up and down and have a decent career.

Whos in favor of Cowan playing in playoffs?
There is no need the Leafs just have to cut down on mistakes and execute better.

Yes I agree wit your analysis, Im thinking for psychological reasons theres always been players in past playoffs that provide spark, Its that factor that I imagine he can add.

I remember catching so much heat in here for merely suggesting he could be the OHLs best player this year near the beginning of the season 🤣

Think it would be tough to keep him off honestly. He's so versatile and can really play any forward position and anywhere in the line up and both special teams.

Hard to not say he's been the best OHL player so far this season.
Crazy someone told me he wasnt even close to being the best OHL player

Man it wasn’t even just the beginning of the season either. During the season when he was already performing at this level people acted like it was ridiculous to say it still lol

As a Knights fan and a Leafs hater, I won't stick around here much, but here's my scouting report on Cowan.

He's a great skater and energy guy, one of the best PKers in the league and great with open space and ice. He has a good amount of creativity with the puck and pretty good IQ both offensively and defensively. He's great off the rush and in odd man situations and pretty good defensively. He also has a nice shot and pretty good hands, his passing and shooting aren't elite by any means but they're pretty good. Where he falls off is when he's tightly checked and doesn't get that space and time.

He projects as a middle six or bottom six tweener who is a great asset on the PK. He's like a Marner-lite, to compare to another Leafs player and former London Knight. He's also very consistent, good or bad.

As a Knights fan I think he's a little overrated here as I don't see him having the top end skill and combined with his size don't see his offensive game translating well to the NHL (but his defensive game definitely will) which will limit his opportunities, but he's a solid pick up and a great player, and a very safe bet to be an effective player at some level in the NHL. He can drive play at the OHL level but I view him as more of a complimentary piece at the NHL level.

EDIT:

He's been effective in the playoffs now up to 17 pts in 14 games and has been good when he's needed to be, coming up with some huge plays in the Saginaw series. He's also had a few gaffes here and there like all players do and in their losses hasn't contributed as much offensively as I'd like to see.

He will make Toronto roster next season. Probably start in a 3rd line role and then take it from there. Marner and Tavares both likely need to be replaced long-term so there will be opportunity to play with Matthews and Nylander if he is a good contributor in such capacity.

As a Knights season ticket holder, that was one of the best games I’ve seen Easton play. Wasn’t just the 5 points, he had a ton of pop to his game, he was creating so much and pushing the pace so well. Oshawa had absolutely no answer to him whenever he was on the ice.

Kid can fly, not many times you'll see a player put up 5 points (1 goal, 3 primary assists) and completely take over in the OHL Finals.

Nice to have something to cheer for as a leafs fan at this time of the year.

Tough to see him sticking another year in junior honestly. He was really good in the pre season and camp last year.

I think he likely ends up next year starting off in a 3rd line role. Probably gets some time trying him out at 3c and then LW up and down the line up.

Pretty confident this kid will have a long NHL career, the question is just how good will he become.
