The poster actually forgot to add Nylander's 7 mill cap hit their, which would now put the Leafs at around 85 mill with only 19 players signed. I think both Kap and AJ gets a 2 year deal for for less than the Domi 3.150 cap hit in order to try to fit everyone in, but that would still leave the leafs with around 1 mill over the cap and at the very least 2 more players to sign; only 1 pressbox player in this scenario, the ease of calling up minor league players due to the Marlies playing in TO can make this doable. Either Marner sign a cheaper, shorter term deal or 1 of Marleau/Zaitsev gets moved, otherwise, Kap or AJ and probably Brown as well is traded to free up cap (can't imagine Babcock will be happy if the latter occurs as well). It's really a tragedy that the Leafs wouldn't make any moves like trading Brown in that scenario. Kudos for being "generous" with Marner @10.5m though lol. You also forgot Moore (775k) and Sparks (755k) putting the Leafs at 78m with 19 players signed in your scenario. 4 players in 4 mil and they're role players? Sure, it's a slight pinch, but we're not drowining or shipping out Kapanen for draft picks here.
As for the deal, not in the slightest bit interested. Risto is a good player, but a defensive disaster is the last thing that we need and we're not stapling Kadri and Kapanen to a deal to move out Zaitsev. When I look at the Leafs, "A PP specialist" is really the last thing on our wish-list.
Yo I know that weed is now legalized, but you don't have to hit the pipe constantly.I know leafs fans never can be happy cause all their players r ea 99 ovr but this deal would be so good for leafs and fair for buffaloes
Buffalo Fans: Risto has negative value. We already have Zaitsev who is the same player.
The Question is who is worth more. Marner,Matthews or Tavares. That is what Marners agent should be pushing during negotiations start.Who is worth more Marner or Kucherov? Point is 1C like JT and Matthews get paid because of the position. Did we overpay on Matthews and Nylander IMO yes. Marner will get paid and paid handsomely but if your looking at production then Kucherov is the McDavid of wingers. How good would Marner look without JT? Likely with Kadri he is at 70 points?
Just saying, this will all be brought up when negotiating starts. Would I have preferred Dubas to have signed all three this summer? Absolutely but it didn’t happen.
A 2 time Hart finalist, who was 1 point away from co-winning the 14/15 Art Ross. The Question is who is worth more. Marner,Matthews or Tavares. That is what Marners agent should be pushing during negotiations start.
Marner without JT would still be your top producer. The bigger question is what would JT be without Marner?
And when did he sign that contract? umKutcherov's current contract (4.7 x 3 years) is up at the end of this current season.
The 9.5 million dollar contract kicks in next season.
Ironically with Zaitsev in the lineup he has a winning record.Any team that gets Zaitsev loses.
I think the logic is that Risto=Kadri or very close to that. Kapanen is included because Zaitsev is a massive cap dump.why do people think Risto has that much value? he's not even close to worth Kadri+Kapanen
The thing is:
Leafs doesnt afford to keep all their players if they want to sign Marner long-term. Kapanen, Johnson and someone else will need to be moved without taking salary back. This trade would upgrade Leafs D while getting that cap-relief. Every GM in the World knows about the situation in Toronto and the offers wont probably be what Leafs will want. Risto hasnt always been a mess, he is just overplayed and I`d bet the constant loosing is rubbing on him. He Still has value and the little meanstreak in him is also a thing Toronto need more of.

Risto is on his way to his 4th straight 40+ point season. Zatsiev won't have close to 40 total between his last 2 seasons. "The same player"
Doesnt matter that much. The team and agent would have agreed on a predicted future cap ceiling next year when the contract kicks in.And when did he sign that contract? um
I get that Toronto is going to have cap issues in the near future but this trade isn’t a very good way of dealing with itI`d assume Ristolainen would do very well on Torontos PP atleast and not having to log 25m+ would hopefully help him being better in his own zone . Maybe a deal around him makes sense?:
Buffalo gets:
- Nazem Kadri 4,5M
- Kasperi Kapanen RFA
- Nikita Zaitsev 4,5M
Toronto get:
- Rasmus Ristolainen 5,4M
- 5th 2019
Buffalo get 2 impact players in Kadri and Kapanen for taking on Zaitsevs contract. Toronto get much needed cap-relief ( around 7-8m in savings ) and upgrade their RD with a pp-specialist who has been struggling a bit eating too much minutes on a bad team.
Buffalo:
Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Sheary - Kadri - Nylander
Rodriques - Mittelstadt - Kapanen
Sobotka - Larsson - Thompson
Okposo traded in the offseason with a sweatener, Pominville off the books.
Toronto:
Zach Hyman-John Tavares-Mitch Marner
Andreas Johnsson-Auston Matthews-William Nylander
Patrick Marleau - Petan - Brown
Risto takes Zaitsevs Place on the 2nd pairing and PP1
Yeah that Dahlin guy sucksHe's also on his way to -40. Good for him for racking up PP assists because his team doesn't have anyone good to play there though.

He has exactly 1 less even strength point than Victor Hedman does playing for a team that has 56 more ES goals than the Sabres do --- guess Hedman's a PP specialist now too?
He's played almost 300 more ES minutes than Hedman, I sure hope he's at least a little close.
Point is his ES production is fine. Risto's T-29th in even strength scoring for defensemen. It's not elite ES production, but it's completely laughable to act like he's only effective on the PP.
Again because he gets bigger minutes than he deserves because Buffalo has no viable alternatives. He's 60th in the league among D with 500+ minutes in ES points per 60, it's not like he's particularly efficient offensively. He's marginally ahead of Ron Hainsey both in rate and raw totals (4 more ES points).
that sounded more like a double shot of vodka just after getting out of bedYo I know that weed is now legalized, but you don't have to hit the pipe constantly.
??????? The asking price for Pesce was never Kapanen, except in the minds of Leaf fans. Most CAR fans agree he would not be on the table except for a massive overpay that no one in TOR would want to do. He and Slavin are the core pieces of our defence... Not going anywhere without it hurting the taker bad.Lmfao, if Kadri and Kapanen are traded in the same deal, I’d expect a top pairing RHD at minimum, and Risto is not that guy
The asking price for Pesce was Kapanen, and Pesce is significantly better than Risto
