I will guess that Hall does get a 1st but there is a bad contract that goes the other way. Similar to the Kase/Backes deal last deadline. For example, CAR 1st + Gardiner for Hall or PHI 1st + Ghost for Hall.

I think the blues will make a play for him
Would require another move to bring in an 8M player, even if Buffalo retained 50%.

And Blues are heading the wrong direction. Think they're more likely to be sellers than buyers.

Well it's a given that he will be traded this week, so the scratch is really not news.

Is there a maximum salary that a team is allowed to retain? Could Buffalo, hypothetically, retain his entire salary and trade him to a team with no cap space?

I could see maybe a Boston move. He wouldn’t have to carry the mail and could be a good compliment to their top six at 50%

Thought it was 3 players?

Also, theoretical question since I don't think this will ever happen, but can Buffalo trade him at 50% retained to an intermediary like Chicago or San Jose, and then that intermediary trades him to another contender and retains another 50% (for 75% retention of his cap)?

I think this has happened before, I could be wrong. It was pre-arranged, and I believe both the originating team and the acquiring team paid some assets to the intermediary for facilitating the deal.
