OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Bryan Murray has been recently diagnosed with cancer. The Senators organization issued the following statement:
“Mr. Murray is undergoing further testing and will begin treatment immediately for this condition as prescribed by the team’s doctors in collaboration with specialists.

Mr. Murray’s treatment schedule may require him to be away from the Senators office periodically. During his periodic absence, assistant general managers Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will be responsible for managing the Ottawa Senators hockey operations department.

On behalf of the entire Senators family, the team is asking that the thoughts, prayers and support of the entire hockey community are with Bryan and his family.

The Senators and Mr. Murray ask that you please respect his family’s privacy during this time.

There will be no further comment from the Senators organization.”

Thoughts are with the Murray family. I'd heard rumours to this effect over the last few days, was really hoping it wasn't true :(

You can beat this Bryan!!

Hopefully caught early and he will be back in full health soon. All the best of luck to him.

On the hockey front, and at the risk of sounding cold, this could be a major concern long-term. Dorion has spent his career as a scout, and is just getting up to speed on the hockey operations and management side of things. And Lee is a former strength and conditioning guy who is really just getting up to speed on scouting. Both are already in hyper learning mode and neither individually or as a pair, are they capable of filling in for Murray in any significant way.

Hopefully they caught it in time.

My step uncle I guess you could say had lung cancer. Removed the lung, but he never recovered and died in April. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in August. I guess they didn't catch it in time as recently I just found out that it's more a question of when she passes.

Cancer affects everyone in some shape, or form.

Hopefully he can pull through this. It's not easy, but he'll need all the support he can get.

Terrible news for the entire hockey community. Cancer is an awful, awful disease I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

My thoughts are with him and his family and hope he can beat this.

For anyone who follows the NFL I would love to see Ottawa fans rally around something like the Colts did with ChuckStrong

For those less inclined to football pretty much the Colts changed their slogan ColtsStrong to ChuckStrong after their coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with cancer. I don't know if in Ottawa it's possible or even what it would be, BryanStrong doesn't have a great ring to it, but it'd be amazing for the fans to show their support for Murray

Sending positive vibes to the Murray family. There are some great oncologists in our area so hopefully they do their thing as they have for so many people I know and love. Murray's strong, we all know that, we'll see him back at this little job soon enough.

Get well, Bryan!
