They kind of need both right now.
Not a high end guy. Just a warm body.
Think cloning Roman Polak for a forward and defenceman for 2 months of use.

That’s the problem. They’re already here.
The forwards don’t need another Bjork or Heinen in the lineup. They need a veteran guy who’s generally angry at his wife and kids who brings that attitude to the rink each night.

You can’t teach that lol. My theory is that’s where old guy strength comes from. Years and years of vent up anger.
Very useful in small spurts on a hockey rink

Dom so how does this work? Sweeney obviously has talked a lot so now with more Injuries can he basically make a call and pull the trigger or does the other GM say wait pump the brakes you’re in a position of weakness now

Vaakanainen could join the team before the Detroit game. It might take more time for McAvoy to come back, but he has been skating. Miller may play in the Detroit game. Moore's injury is day to day so he may be back for the Detroit game. It doesn't look good for Carlo as he's now on IR. Same for Chara now that he's out for 4-6 weeks.
So in the somewhat short term, we could see our defensive corps look like this:
Vaakanainen - McAvoy
Krug - Moore
Grzelcyk - Miller
Not ideal with the Bruins missing what was their 1st-pairing these last few weeks, Chara-Carlo, but it will allow us to get a glimpse of the future and see how these young kids can play.
You also have to think if the Bruins are going out of their way for a defenseman, the price must have skyrocketed.

Cave and Blidh could be a good add to the team. Forth line could use a pest like Blidh and Cave is playing well in the AHL use him while he is hot. Backes and Acciari are just too slow together.

That's just it, and with Carlo,Vaak,Miller and possibly McAvoy all due back next week. Why panic and trade for more defense. That would be the ultimate" bone-head panic move".
They need offense. They have the NHL leading goalscorer but as a Team their tied for 17th in the league for goals scored.

I doubt an opposing GM tells DS to pump the brakes. If anything, if DS was having conversations with a GM, the price just went up. And there will be a marked increase depending on how bad Bergeron is.
The Bruins are in the situation now that I dreaded. What to do?
On one hand we have the ever so patient Don Sweeney, who will do things calmly and by putting a lot of thought into it. On the other, we have Cam Neely. Mr. emotional, the logo tattooed on his chest, now is the moment kind of guy.
I'm watching that situation more then the product on the ice.

Chara’s month-long absence adds to Bruins’ blue line woes
The good news is that the blue line injury list could see fewer faces on it real soon. Cassidy said that Miller could be back Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. Any of Carlo, McAvoy or Vaakanainen may also be able to return to the lineup that night. The Bruins have three full days off after Saturday’s meeting with the Arizona Coyotes; plenty of time to recoup and possibly piece back together their defense corps.
In the meantime, the Bruins will rely on some of their kids to help them get through this stretch. It’ll be quite a period of evaluation.

Injured reserve isn't really a good indication for length of injury, except that a player must be on IR for a minimum of 7 days. It is more for opening roster spots.
Bruins currently have 27 players counting against the cap, 4 over the limit. IR was needed to carry 23 players.

Exactly. When was the last time the Bruins had this much defense depth? Vaak and Lauzon look like regulars, haven’t seen enough of Zboril but he looks promising. The last thing they need to do is trade for another defenseman with the forward group so thin. Nordstrom isn’t a top 6 forward. JFK is ok but I’m not sure he’s a long term solution for 3C yet. The 4th line could use a shake up too.
I think they can solve the bottom 6 by call ups from Providence. Cave and maybe Blihd on the 4th line instead of Acciari and Wagner. Kovar maybe works as 3C or on Krejci’s wing, no idea.

Gotcha. It looks like I confused LTIR and IR. I'm glad I got it wrong though since it may mean Carlo may be back sooner than I expected
.I think the Bruins should focus on their forward lines if they want to make any additions.

Agree completely about a trade for a d-man. Last night showed that D is not the issue. The D and goalie were great, all things considered. You are correct that the bottom 6 needs a shakeup, and I'm not talking rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic. Baffling that some options have not already been tried. The longer the team pisses around without trying some things with the lineup (all lines), the longer and harder it will be to assess exactly what is needed in a potential trade and pull off a trade.

scoring will come with health IMO, you have a healthy 6 man unit on the back end, with the B`s top 6, you gain possession and start the transition game. While I truly appreciate all the efforts the kids are making back there, they are struggling a bit to gain possession as experienced teams are able to hem them up, what this also means are the forwards are now likely being asked to do a bit more in the D zone, drop a touch further down in the zone to add some help, tough to create transition from that spot
I don`t want DS to make a rash move here and get hosed with a move made from a position of weakness

In the long run though. Scoring is needed way more than defensive help. The Bruins have a great amount of depth defensively, its a mere fluke that all these injury's too the d seemed to happen all at once.
Hopefully it'll be a blessing in disguise in the long run.
I'm not the least bit worried about their defense in the big picture but offensively they need help for that first line.
