If NYR retains 35% on Lundqvist, his cap hit is actually like 250k/yr lower than Jones' is. Plus it expires after the 2021 season, where Jones' expires after 2024. If we can find a deal that sends them Jones as part of getting Lundqvist back here at that level of retention, I am entirely in favor of doing so. Especially if we can get Zuccarello along with him.
No way.

Lundqvist is certainly declining. I'd roll the dice if he weren't signed 3 more years though.

At this point, Lundqvist is probably only a marginal upgrade on Jones and if Jones bounces back, he could be even better than Lundqvist in a year or two. Although the term on Jones contract has always bothered me and I think it's probably the second worst goalie contract in the league. Price has the worst hands down and after that, it's gotta be Jones, with Schneider's not too far behind and only behind because it has 3 years left and not 5.

The Lundqvist of 3 or more years ago would absolutely push this year's team to the cup, pending some serious bad luck or him just having an off-year in the playoffs. That would easily make this the best Sharks team ever, as Lundqvist of 3 years and longer ago would be the best goalie the Sharks ever had. Jones of 2016 would likely be all that's needed in goal to win a cup this year.

Actually, PF and I were in the main boards, adamant that a budget team would take on Boedker due to his decent season and his actual salary that was $1M less than his cap hit.

Jones has a 3-team NTC list. He could make life hell for us.
You need to be more specific about which circle of hell, because we're already down there with his season this year.

You kind of have to do something, you cant screw the entire team over because the goalies suck. It's a team one piece away from cup caliber, a decent goalie, you have to do something.

Literally any goalie out there is going to be an improvement. Doug just cant hooe for the best with the evidence on hand

The question is which of those goalies is actually available and whose salary we can fit. And that may also mean that we cannot make any moves to add forwards to our roster unless we have salary going back.

That being said, it is getting harder and harder to argue that goalie is NOT the position that we need to make a move for.

I would have liked to see Korenar or Bibeau in the NHL sometime this year. But with just 22 games left this season, even if they do well, you cannot realistically have them starting games in the post-season.

Trade Dell this off-season and pick one of Korenar/Bibeau to backup Jones. Give them a real shot through the season as well. I know it does not help us this year, but it is what it is.
Wouldn't be the first time a rookie walked into the playoffs and killed it. Cam Ward, Antti Niemi, Braden Holtby, Matt Murray. I'd seriously consider doing it like right now.

OUCH.

I do think it's too early to talk about a Jones buyout, as he's usually an average goalie and his cap hit isn't too bad for an average goalie, but the term isn't good. That's the worst part of his deal to me.

Honestly, I'd buy out Vlasic before Jones, if we were given the get out of jail for free card today.

I already can’t sleep because I’m pissed about this game, but now I gotta sleep on the goddamn floor because my air mattress inexplicably has a hole in it (I let my ex wife keep the bed after the divorce and haven’t bothered to buy a new one yet). I gotta be up in 5 hours, it’s gonna be a long night haha

I can understand that sentiment. But the Jones of *this* year seems to be worse than the Lundqvist of *this* year. There's no guarantee we get 2016 Jones for the playoffs, much as I'd love it if we did. Given the all-in nature of this season, I'm a little bit willing to let the next couple seasons after this look out for themselves. Especially if either of our AHL goalies can make the leap in one of those seasons, and step into the #1 role in just a couple years when Lundqvist's contract expires.

I disagree. Teams are always on the lookout for a D-man. Vlasic is turning it around and still has trade value, though it is limited by his NMC.

Goalie's are tricky because you only have 1 starter per team and with the money that Jones makes, he has to be the #1 on that team.

Seattle needs a goalie. Sweeten the deal by giving them Vlasic to pick Jones in the expansion draft. They can make our pick a couple years early to really prepare their players.
