Cassidy said Foligno was due to have an MRI on his undisclosed upper-body ailment. The 33-year-old was hampered last spring by what he has termed a “debilitating” back injury, which caused him to miss three of Toronto’s seven playoff games. The former Columbus captain signed with the Bruins for two years and $7.6 million in July.

Smith, Cassidy said, is “dealing with a bit of a nagging injury that we’re trying to work through.” He did not skate Saturday.

Nick Foligno heads to IR

The Bruins will be without Nick Foligno for their two-game trip to Florida (Wednesday) and Carolina (Thursday). The veteran forward, who has been skating the No. 3 right wing, was placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury before Sunday’s matinee.

Speaking before puck drop, Cassidy said he didn’t know how long Foligno would be sidelined.
Jack Studnicka made his season debut on the fourth line, centering Trent Frederic and Karson Kuhlman. The other call-up, with Craig Smith (undisclosed) also out of the lineup, was Oskar Steen.
Smith’s nagging ailment, Cassidy said, “didn’t respond as well as we’d hoped” to yesterday’s treatment in Brighton.

Hit-first left wing Anton Blidh (upper body), who according to Cassidy has a similar, albeit undisclosed, injury to Foligno, will not travel to Florida

Let Smith sit and get him right. No need trying to play through something and being hurt or sore all year

ugh the Foligno stuff is not sounding good.

As for Smith, I hope he didn't reinjure whatever he hurt in the playoffs (knee?).

What does toughness have to do with getting an injury? Even guys who play a "tough" game can get injured. You think Kevan Miller wasn't tough?

Nothing. The point was Foligno was allegedly here to add toughness to replace what is lost in Ritchie.

Edit: intended more in an exasperated manner than to rehash the debate.

Curtis Lazar may be ready to rejoin Bruins lineup Wednesday in Florida - The Boston Globe

Neither Foligno nor Smith was aboard the afternoon flight out of Hanscom to Florida. Foligno, placed on injured reserve over the weekend, won’t be back for a while. Cassidy is hopeful that Smith could be ready for the Panthers rematch Saturday night at the Garden.

Lazar, no surprise, said he’ll be happy wherever he’s asked to play. He is a righthanded shooter, which likely means he would move to right wing on the fourth line if Cassidy opts to keep Trent Frederic as that line’s pivot.

Still a ways to go, it seems.
Bruins Injuries: Bruce Cassidy Offers Update On Nick Foligno
Although Nick Foligno is back on the ice, he isn’t ready to re-enter the fray.
Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy offered an update on the injured forward’s condition Sunday. Foligno is on injured reserve and has missed the last five games due to the upper-body injury he suffered Oct. 20. Cassidy revealed Foligno is skating on his own, but his status remains week-to-week.
“He’s skating, which is good,” Cassidy said at a press conference, per the Bruins’ website. “Not with us, unfortunately, which is not going to put him in the lineup any time before he can skate with us. Still list him as the same as where he’s been.”
