Problem with analytics is hockey minds get butt hurt when they aren't shown positively in them. I would hope the organization is truly adopting a more forward thinking approach to advanced stats and as such is getting Boudreau to fully buy in even if he isn't painted in a great light thanks to them and not just paying lip service.

It's basically unheard-of that a new GM with a new regime and a new plan doesn't get to hire his own coach.

Sometimes the new GM might keep the old coach, but that's totally his decision (ie. Gillis could totally have fired AV in 2008 and nobody would have batted an eye about it).

It's a profoundly bizarre situation that Allvin is faced with so much pressure - both external and internal - to keep an old head coach on a short-term deal that clearly isn't his preferred option.

Unless Allvin's fav coach is on the market right now, all pressures are Allvin's own fault. He only needs to ext BB for one year.

Except, again, no new GM coming into a non-playoff team ever has to do this. It's freaking weird.

New GM gets to hire his own head coach. Always.

The problem is BB's record is 0.6xxx something. If his record had been 0.3xx, he could have gone before locker cleaning day.

Have a feeling Jason King will get the boot.
Also Brad Shaw may go as well, he wasn’t Bruce’s boy unlike Scott Walker.

It is weird and it was easily foreseeable when the owner decides to hire a coach before hiring a GM.

At least that's out of the way. The weird public jousting that was getting spurned on by the media was tiresome.

Doesn’t seem intentional, but good PR for the Canucks that Bruce decided to stay on a day where they made a bunch of cuts to guys with long tenure.

I'm happy about Bruce. The ball is still in management's court to improve the team, but glad this is done.

Sounds like they didn’t extend him, he just took the optional year that was originally penciled in his contract.
Good to see the management achieved what they wanted with patience, something this fan base could really learn

Pretty sure JR already said during his year end presser that there would be no extension. Both sides had options. The Canucks were exorcising their option so it was up to BB whether he wanted to come back or not.

Pretty interested in seeing what the team can do start to finish with a legitimate NHL caliber head coach. It's been a long time since the Canucks had one. Good news.
