Sunday might have been their best defensive effort in nine games this season. They just couldn’t beat Igor Shesterkin, who’s expected to be Henrik Lundqvist’s successor as the New York Rangers’ No. 1 goalie, more than once.

“We played a good defensive game today,” Bridgeport centerman Otto Koivula said. “We have to find a way to score. That’s key. We had some good chances, and we didn’t score.”

At 1-5-2-1, this is Bridgeport’s worst nine-game start in the franchise’s 19 seasons, and it’ll be the worst 11-game start, too.
“A lot of young guys are learning,” Bridgeport coach Brent Thompson said. “It’s going to be a work in progress, but we dug ourselves a big hole, and we have to start filling it back up. And it starts now.”

i saw Bode was slated for Bridgeport, when might he be slated to get into games?

After missing the training camp he has lots of conditioning and workouts still to do, but they said it will be in a couple of weeks.

He has a high ankle sprain and there is NO prognosis as to when he'll be starting up again, much less able to play.

That injury is unfortunately a very tricky one. It would have been better to have broken his ankle and then let it heal on a very trackable timetable than to have this kind of sprain.

Kind of the same thing as a groin pull. Very difficult to get back into the swing of things without aggravating the injury.

This was a big year for Wilde's development, it's too bad it hasn't even started yet. The high ankle sprain does suck, he's not going to be right for a while and a lot of his game is based on his premium skating. There is a log jam of RHD's that soften the blow for the organization, but it would have been nice having him gaining valuable pro experience.

THE BRIDGEPORT REPORT: WEEK 4

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (1-5-2-1), American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, are trying to fight off their early-season demons as October comes to a close and November begins. Bridgeport saw its tough start to the season continue last week as the club collected one point in four games within the division. The Sound Tigers faced each of their closest rivals – the Providence Bruins, Springfield Thunderbirds and Hartford Wolf Pack – with three of the four tilts taking place at Webster Bank Arena.

Feels Like the First Time: 19-year-old Czech goaltender Jakub Skarek made his AHL debut on Saturday after being reassigned from the Worcester Railers (ECHL) two days prior. Skarek, the Islanders’ third-round pick in 2018, made 30 saves on 34 shots in Hartford. He was very impressive in the ECHL before his recent call-up, recording a 1.42 goals-against-average and a .941 save percentage in Worcester.

Offensive Woes: The Sound Tigers are determined to climb the ladder in several offensive categories this weekend. Bridgeport is last in the AHL in shots per game (25.89) and 29th on the power play (3-for-37), which is a big reason why the team is 28th in goals scored per game (1.89). The Sound Tigers have been outscored 35-17 in their first nine games of the season.

Quick Hits: The Sound Tigers have scored first in four of their nine games this season, but have yet to win when doing so…Bridgeport went 9-4-2-1 against North Division opponents last season…Steve Bernier is four points away from his 400th as a pro.

The week ahead:
Friday, Nov. 1 at Syracuse (7 p.m.):
The Sound Tigers face their first opponent outside of the division on Friday as they travel to Upstate New York for the first of four matchups with the Crunch. Tampa Bay’s affiliate has earned points in back-to-back games entering the weekend (1-0-1-0) and currently ranks sixth in the North Division.

Saturday, Nov. 2 vs. Lehigh Valley (7 p.m.): Philadelphia’s affiliate comes to Webster Bank Arena for the first time this season on Scout Night! All scouts (boys and girls) can receive a free ticket to the game by contacting Sound Tigers representative John Reis at 203-345-4848 or [email protected]. Post-game photos on the ice are also available! Saturday’s game will feature the first of six meetings between the Sound Tigers and Phantoms this season.

Sunday, Nov. 3 vs. Lehigh Valley (5 p.m.): The Phantoms will spend the night in Bridgeport as daylight savings time rolls back, setting up for a 5 p.m. rematch this Sunday. The Sound Tigers went 3-2-1-0 against Lehigh Valley last season and 2-1-0-0 in those games at Webster Bank Arena. Sunday 4-Packs are also available, featuring four (4) tickets, four (4) hot dogs or pizza slices, four (4) bags of chips, four (4) soft drinks and a pair (2) of autographed official game pucks for just $89.

Coming off a high ankle sprain and no set time for his return. Bode comes in missing most of training camp, exhibition games and regular season games. I think he had that injury already at the Saginaw training camp. He is D+2 this year, where does he develop and maintain his confidence with out possibly having an entrance to the AHL not physically ready. Not to mention other players are all in game shape and battle tested.
At the start of the year Bode without an injury he is playing in the AHL. Now it is quite different another year in Saginaw might be the call. I would keep him down as long as possible just to be more acclaimated with pro hockey. Also, he could lead us to a title? Can't blame a guy for trying.

While I wouldn't mind if Wilde rejoined a powerhouse Saginaw team and make a Memorial Cup run, I think it's pretty clear the Isles want their prized under their direct control.

Dobson is being slow played, Wahlstrom is only up due to injuries, Holmstrom was kept in the AHL, and all of the rest of the significant prospects are in the AHL or ECHL. I expect Wilde to stay in the AHL all season and be eased into the lineup. As long as he finishes strongly, it would be a great development season for him. CHL to AHL transition for a 19 year old is a big task so they'll be patient with him.

If Team USA gets their heads out of their asses, Wilde going to the WJC might not be a bad idea.

Family meeting: Wotherspoons could meet for first time

BRIDGEPORT — The Wotherspoon brothers went outside to play road hockey back in British Columbia when they were young, the big one, Tyler, four and a half years older than the little one. Tyler would try to teach Parker skills, little things about the game.

“I’d still be a brat and whack him in the ankles right away,” Parker Wotherspoon remembered with a little brother’s grin on Tuesday after his Bridgeport Sound Tigers practiced. “That’s probably why I’m a little smaller, because of running away.”

Later, on the phone after his Lehigh Valley Phantoms practiced in Allentown, Pa., Tyler Wotherspoon chuckled an older brother’s chuckle. “We had some battles.”
