I know, but he was suppose to be the real deal... he's showing he's definitely not..

I want to hate on Dubas but the end result is that you only become a good negotiator with experience. He has very little. It's no surprise he's getting taken advantage of.

Most of Matthews' contract is signing bonuses, which in his case significantly reduces the tax advantage Tampa has.

The difference is that our GM is a ****ing cheerleader, while Tampa has done a good job of creating an environment players want to stay in for/below market value. I wonder what that's like.

Ah, right, forgot about that. $15+ mil in signing bonuses, $700k "salary".

After your fanbase savagely ripped him apart for all these off-season transactions.

Never agreed with our fan base on the Domi trade, some people at time where so mad but I knew Domi was good.

a part from that he did good trades this summer with Armia, Suzuki, Tatar, Domi, Kulak ( love him more than I should, Always make a good first pass and is great on the D)

If Point signs a "bridge" I think it'll be in the 6-7 range. If he goes long term, I think it'll be 8-9

Yup.. You can guarentee there is no chance in hell he walks in and demands more cash per year than Kuckerov and Stammer... I cant wait to see how deadly his deal is

I mean eventually Tampa is going to run into a guy who isn't willing to take a discount, and I won't blame them. These guys want to win, but still need to look out for their future and the future of their families.

I just don't think Point will be the guy to break that trend. I don't imagine any of the drafted and raised guys in the Tampa organization will.

Ya there is no stress with Point. I love the fact his agent came out right now that Point is cool with any length of deal right now. Cool to read someone that is easy going and wants to do whats best for his team

Not surprised. If I was an NHL player, Tampa would be at the top of my list. Nice city. Near the water. Warm weather. Tax friendly. Not to mention, Amalie arena is really nice. They have a great fan base.
100% agree. When Stamkos was a free agent and we had this whole Tampa or Toronto thing I didn't understand why he'd want to leave at all. Yeah I get the from Toronto thing blah blah, but he lives in a beautiful city, with amazing weather, some privacy, a great fan base and a great competitive team.
Tampa is really an envy of most franchises IMO. They have a lot to offer.

Once there was a time, when no Avs player made more money than Matt Duchene. That was Avs' ceiling for player salaries.

I can see the same thing happening in Tampa. No player shall make $10M. The players know what they're worth, but will they all agree to leave money on the table to keep together this fantastic core that has came so close to winning it all a couple of times in the recent years? I'd say that yes, they will all take discounts. And why wouldn't they?

Captain could earn an extra $2M a year, but he doesn't.

#1D and an every-year Norris candidate could earn an extra $3M a year, but he doesn't.

One of the best wingers in the game could earn an extra $2M a year, but does he? Yup, he doesn't.

Point could say: "give me my money. I DESERVE $9M a year, at least. And I could get more. I know my worth".

But I think, that he'll sign for less. 5 years, 7.66 million dollars. Something like that.

When three of your best team mates are setting an example and doing everything they can to one day win the Stanley Cup, there's not much left for you to do. Either you leave the same $1.5M to the table as everyone else, or you leave.

I'm just waiting for that Callahan contract to expire. Can't wait to see what Brisebois is going to do with that cap space.

Seems a little asinine to ask a. Player to leave 10-15m on the table depending on the term of the deal.

I mean, when comparing to Bergevin...everyone looks like Elon Musk.
Pacioretty for Tatar Suzuki and mid 2nd round pick
Galchenyuk for Domi
Ahlers for Kulak (who is better than any Toronto defensemen not named Reilly Muzzin)
Simon Bourque for Mason (buyout) Joel Armia 7th rd pick 2019 fourth round pick 2020
Plekanec for 2nd round pick (Olofsson)
5th round pick for Mike Reilly
Montoya for 4th round pick
Jakub Jerabek for 5th round pick
Zack Redmond for Deslauriers
2018 7th round pick for 2017 7th round pick (Cayden Primeau)
Drouin for Sergachev (jury is still out)

Bergevin made a couple of bad moves since hired but lately. he has been doing a great job at stockpilling the picks and making trades...

You are reading a lot into that quote.
He is only saying that he is flexible on the term of the contract.

Very interested to see how this plays out.

Point is probably a better and more valuable player to that team than Steven Stamkos. Curious if his AAV will reflect that.

Watch how little he signs for... TO fans will lose it

2 to 3 year deal at an absurdly small amount... Well absurdly small to what Matthews signed

LOL.

Massive market.............Tiny market
Super wealthy team...........financially precarious team
Fishbowl/media hell............place where everyone cares more about Nascar than hockey
1st OA Superstar...............Brayden Point

Yeah.

Super comparable.
